Robert P. White, who commands American forces in Iraq, last week wrote what the New York Times called a “blunt memo,” in which he opposed a new plan by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and others to attack Iranian-allied militias inside Iraq. 

Advocates for regime-change think if the US squeezes Iran enough during the pandemic, the people will turn against the clerics. They made similar foolish conclusions about Iraq. They underestimate the power of nationalism. Iran has become a regional power in part because its people have solidified against sanctions.

A superb and indispensable new book shows that Saudi Arabia is now a murderous, one-man dictatorship — with U.S. elite complicity. Ben Hubbard of the NYT shows how the Crown Prince has cracked down on all opposition within the royal family, almost certainly ordered Khashoggi’s murder, and meantime seduced much of the western media.

A New York Times article on coronavirus in Israel and Palestine notes that a “small and crowded” land is particularly vulnerable to an epidemic. But the article’s emphasis is Israelis. The most vulnerable population, Gaza’s 1.8 million, go unmentioned, in a form of journalistic apartheid.

A New York Times article finally covers the racism in Israeli politics, but it is still biased. It quotes 6 Israeli Jews, but only 2 Palestinians. And it repeats Netanyahu’s charge that the Palestinian Joint List “includes lawmakers who support terrorism”— without giving any of the 15 Palestinians a chance to respond to the libel. 

The New York Times repeats hateful charges by Benjamin Netanyahu that the Palestinian Joint List includes “supporters of terrorists” and “terror supporters.” But no one on the Joint List gets the chance to respond!

An African president’s speech at the AIPAC conference fit the Israel lobby’s pattern of cynicism and dishonesty. The controversial president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, traveled to Washington to promise to send an ambassador to Israel after a 20-year absence.

Finally, the ‘NY Times’ ends its blackout, and reports how Palestinian citizens are participating in Israel’s election on March 2. But the Times fails to state the fact that Israel is having its third election in a year in part because of Jewish parties’ racism against Palestinians being part of the government.

Just imagine the outcry if the New York Times completely ignored the existence of black and Latino voters in its analysis of the U.S. elections? But the paper continues to practice electoral apartheid in its coverage of Israel.

Jared Kushner believes that Palestinians will choose international funds instead of political freedom. He’s wrong. 94 percent of Palestinians oppose his plan. 82 percent think the plan makes the conflict an “existential conflict,” and 64 percent support armed struggle or intifada as a response to the plan.
