Nablus is mourning the loss of loved ones following an Israeli army invasion that killed 11 people. “Loss is difficult as it is,” says newly widowed Umm Muhammad. “Loss because of the bullets of this ugly regime is indescribable.”
The massive Israeli invasion of Nablus led to the assassination of several Palestinian resistance fighters, while the army fired indiscriminately at residents and killed an additional 8 Palestinians.
Israeli forces and Israeli settlers killed 3 Palestinians in three days shortly after Itamar Ben Gvir called for an “Operation Defensive Shield 2” in response to the targeting of Israeli settlers.
In less than two days, Israeli forces killed five Palestinians in Ramallah, Nablus, Hebron, and Jenin.
Ahmad Amer Abu Juneid, 21, was killed with a bullet to the head in the Balata Refugee Camp in Nablus; Sanad Samamra, 19, was killed in Hebron after an alleged stabbing attempt; Samir Ouni Aslan, 41, was killed with a bullet to the chest in the Qalandia refugee camp; and Habib Mohammad Abdelrahman Kamil, 25, and Abdelhadi Fakhri Nazzal, 18, were killed in Qabatiya, Jenin.
The raid lasted several hours, during which time Israeli forces surrounded several homes where members of the “Lion’s Den” group were reportedly fighting from.
Fulfilling its role as Israel’s proxy army, the Palestinian Authority has arrested resistance fighters in Nablus, followed by violent clashes with Nablus residents amidst chants of PA collaborationism.
Mariam Barghouti travels to Nablus to meet the family of Ibrahim al-Nablusi, who was assassinated by Israeli forces on August 9. Al-Nablusi became a legend in the Palestinian generation born at the peak of the Second Palestinian Intifada. Although news reports hailed the young fighter as a “top commander” and “senior militant,” al-Nabulsi lived another life with his friends and family. “When we used to ask him why he kept going, he would reply, ‘I am reviving the spirit of resistance of an entire generation’,” Ibrahim’s sister Shahd al-Nabulsi tells Mondoweiss.
