I keep saying that my side is winning, inside Jewish life. Well, here’s another Jew for whom the Israeli occupation is a sine qua non of his understanding of Israel: bookseller Ira Glunts, taking on the Israel lobby, and commenting on how quickly the McCain campaign tried to undo Sarah Palin’s Jewish problem by getting her an inoculation from AIPAC:
though the anti-Jewish accusations against their bible- praising,
hockey mom candidate were scurrilous and spurious, the McCain campaign
thought that the best antidote against Palin’s burgeoning Jewish
problem was immunization from a group of hastily assembled AIPAC
directors, who, I assume, were in town for the Republican convention.
The group met with Palin at her hotel. Ironically, she was chaperoned
by the man she had replaced as John McCain’s choice for a running mate,
Senator Lieberman…Josh
Block, a spokesman for AIPAC, announced, “We had a good productive
discussion on the importance of the U.S./Israel relationship, and we
were pleased that Gov. Palin expressed her deep, personal, and lifelong
commitment to the safety and well-being of Israel…”
Glunts has some sport with those words “lifelong commitment” on the part of the girl from Sandpoint, Idaho (just down the road from the Aryan Nation in Hayden Lake). I’ve mentioned this incident before, the AIPAC meeting last week for which Palin blew off a religious right event. I don’t think we can make too much of it. Palin was vetted, by the Israel lobby. And what is the refrain in her speeches: she has taken on the lobbyists!

Excuse me for changing the subject, but in re the terrorist threat, (perhaps not as significant as Sarah Palin but noteworthy nevertheless) consider this article from nytimes:
U.S. Attack on Taliban Kills 23 in Pakistan
By JANE PERLEZ and PIR ZUBAIR SHAH
Published: September 8, 2008
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Five missiles fired from an American pilotless aircraft on Monday hit a large compound in North Waziristan belonging to one of Pakistan’s most prominent Taliban leaders, two Pakistani intelligence officials and a local resident said.
The missile attack, at about 10:20 a.m., killed 23 people, including 8 children, and wounded at least 18, according to accounts of the intelligence officials. The strike hit the compound run by Sirajuddin Haqqani, the son of Jalaluddin Haqqani, whom …
Among those killed in the attack were one of Jalaluddin Haqqani’s two wives, his sister, sister-in-law and eight of his grandchildren, Pakistani intelligence officials said.
…
Lou Fintor, a spokesman at the United States Embassy in Islamabad, said the embassy had no comment on the strike.
The attack was carried out less than a week after the first publicly acknowledged ground operation by American Special Operations forces against Taliban operating inside Pakistan. The commandos struck at militants in a village in South Waziristan on Wednesday at the start of what American commanders said was likely to be a more sustained campaign against the Taliban operating in Pakistan’s tribal region.
The attack on Monday was the third American missile strike on Taliban targets in North and South Waziristan since the ground attack on Wednesday.
…
Sorry I left this out:
It appeared that neither Sirajuddin Haqqani nor his father was present at the compound. But the officials said the family ran a number of training camps and facilities in North Waziristan and had plenty of places to hide.
Given that Haqqani family members arrived at the compound just half an hour before the strike, it seemed that the Americans were relying on fresh intelligence. Because it was well known that Haqqani family members also lived in the compound, the strike could have a psychological, as well as practical, impact.
It seems the US may be breaking new ground in our anti-terrorism doctraine, going even beyond the targeted assassination used by the Israelis.
This wilfull murdering of children by drone airplanes will inspire the endless wrath of many generations.
It is a decidely stupid and cruel policy.
Pakistani democracy is failing and this pushes it along. The army will have to take over. Is that what we want? Didnt work so well for us the last time.
Now that you have given us the "breaking news", tell us your opinion of the blog entry by Phil.
Assuming a lack of sarcasim, I know you want to get back to Sarah, whom you think to be a more significant subject for discussion.
Otherwise dudes it looks like you have some kind of distraction agenda going on..
Getting back to Sarah. I fail to see how she is taking on the lobbyists. The important point here is that if the Lobby is vetting candidates we have here a major usurping of constitutional power by a splinter faction of 2.9% of the American population!!
Her vetting by Israel Lobby is essential, and goes without saying.
I wonder what would happen if she DIDN'T give right answers.
"a splinter faction of 2.9% of the American population!!"
off topic, but I've never seen that number used before. That would imply there's 9 million Jews in the U.S. Usually it's given as 5 million (1.7%). Where does that come from himandkin?
Mark Sunwall, writing about the "Arctic Evita," gets it right:
————
"Like our Sarah, Evita was nothing if not sincere. It wasn’t for want of beauty or a strong will that her reform movement failed. It was rather that one woman couldn’t change the prevailing reality of her land: a country settled by first world immigrants, which was swiftly attaining third-world status."

————
And here's where the AIPAC tapeworm comes in:
"In spite of the best efforts of government economists the United States has yet to attain perfect third-world status, but we already have tragedy enough: a country settled by people seeking freedom from molestation has morphed into a meddling, interventionist empire."
When Britain's prime minister, Gordon Brown, visited Ramallah in mid-July, he told the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas: "We want to see a freeze on settlements. Settlement expansion has made peace harder to achieve. It erodes trust, it heightens Palestinian suffering, it makes the compromises Israel needs to make for peace more difficult."
In that case, the decision by the British government to rent space for our new embassy in Tel Aviv from the Africa-Israel Investments company chaired by businessman Lev Leviev sends precisely the wrong message." Read the rest here-

Levievs alliance with Angolas central government, which won the countrys civil war, led to his gaining primary control of the countrys rough-diamond supply in 2000. A security company contracted by Leviev was accused this year by a local human-rights monitor of participating in practices of humiliation, whipping, torture, sexual abuse, and, in some cases, assassinations. Levievs formal response to the report did not directly address the abuses but touted his charitable activities in Angola." Read the rest here-

The Israel lobby runs Washington, Washington run London, from Arabs to Brit's to Americans to Latino's to Africans, it's a global problem. Decent people are choking on the Israel lobby. You talk about anti Semitism, what do you call this contempt, this corruption of other peoples right to self determination in their own lands?
heres the link for Abe Hayeem's article on the Guardians comment is free web site, it didn't link up properly before

Vetting occurs BEFORE a candidate is announced.
What you are describing is not vetting.
Wrong hlmeankin, it is that I feel that not only Palin but this whole ridiculous election is a distraction agenda, and I no longer feel like putting up with this stupidity. US is now worse than Israel and we need to come to grips with that.
The choice between Dems and Repugs is about as meaningful and interesting as the choice between Labor and Likud.
"Vet – To evaluate for possible approval or acceptance."
Richard brings up a valid point. But it assumes that she was being vetted for the position of running mate. Since that decision had already been made, the vetting in question was done in order to secure Jewish money, power, and influence going forward.
And in fact I'm more on topic than this phoney election bullshit. Afghanistan comes home.
That is garbage.
Obama is so far superior in policy understanding than McCain, as to make your comment a joke.
In the CRITICAL aspects of American life, Obama's proposals represent a restoration of viable and vibrant public life, whereas McCain's is literally a continuation of the same primary policies with incidental window dressing.
Zionism comes home. US have surpassed Israel as the foremost Gangster State.
Even assuming the best from Obama, he can do nothing to change a system that is totally corrupt unless the people wake up to the situation.
The system is not "totally corrupt".
There is no system that is "good" or "evil".
They each require involvement to make better.
does anyone get muzzlewatch? it has been pretty good at alerting people to zionist muzzling in the media, on campus, etc. check it out. anyway, this morning i opened the item on increasing anti-semitism in the us. basicly the "anti-semitism" didn't amount to anything more than what is discussed in this blog. accusations of "dual loyalty", of jewish dominance of the media, israel connection to 9/11.
be prepared for the knock on the door, people. we are anti-semites. even the "good guys", muzzlewatch, set the bar pretty low for anti-semitism.
