is to send those beautiful girls to public school. People are rumoring Lafayette. Can you imagine the effect on Washington culture? Yes, you can.

With two secret service people in each class?
Not a chance. No way that the "black messiah" sends his progeny to mix poor black kids.
I'd be very shocked if he would.
Mrs. Obama visited several private schools in the D.C. metro area, including the Georgetown Day School, Sidwell Friends (the Quaker school that Chelsea Clinton attended) and a third, the Maret School. All three are comparable to the University of Chicago Lab Schools (otherwise known as "The Lab") that Sasha, 7, and Malia, 10, currently attend.
The Obamas' choice to send their children to private school speaks volumes about their value system. My son went to a Chicago magnet grade school, to a Catholic high school (although neither of his parents are Catholic), and to a private college. He got his masters at a state university.
Then again I never represented a whole community, let alone a nation.
I myself went to public schools growing up, had to deal with gangs etc; I paid for my own college and grad school.
I wouldn't want my son to experience what I did in my urban public schools. On the other hand, he lost something being sheltered too.
I hope Obama sends his kids to whatever school will give them the best education and prepare them best for adult life. I don't see any reason why he should use his choice of school as a way of sending a "message" or making a "statement" about anything, or having some "effect" on Washington culture.
The usual standard is "what's in the best interest of the child."
Of course that's in the realm of family law (where it often reaches the point of absurdity).
Philip, I don't know if you have children, but if you did and they were elementary or junior high school age in 2008, would you send them to public school in Washington DC? I don't think so.
No, no limosine liberal would ever send their kid to school in DC.
Seems so odd that the same crowd loves to ridicule the cultural values of Sarah Palin and her constituency. Of course you'd never be afraid to send your kid to any of the public schools she and that small town crowd send their kids to. Must be something in the water of those rural schools attended by children of hicks that they don't need metal detectors at the door.
