Why Are Greeks Getting So Bent out of Shape by One Boy’s Death?

All of Greece has been shut down because police shot and killed a 15-year-old boy, accidentally, they say. 1050 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis since 2000. And 123 Israel children killed by Palestinians. A cycle of violence, and an imbalanced one. My country must adopt an evenhanded policy.

My guess is that the Greeks are upset about things that are happening in their own country. Hopefully Americans will wake up also.

Is it any wonder that some people see a Jew behind every bush, when there are people placing them there? Why not judge Israel on its own merits instead of constantly comparing the situation to other events? Why not just cut Israel loose and be done with the whole situation?

I think the Greeks have it just about right. Would that all peoples had such backbone.

Why do people take criticism of Israel so personally?

Nationalists are ethnocentric and jingoistic by nature. That's why.

Any criticism of their State is seen as a threat to their existence but not as in their LIFE but rather their manner of existence.

For Israel, it's the way in which they can impose their will on other people and countries. Unjustly. A racist country. A fanatic country run amok.

Too bad Americans don't care as much about their boy and girl soldiers losing life or limb for nothing that will ever benefit their own families.

Oh well, where else would they get a job with insurance benefits?

I really object to the narrowness of the title of this post. Interestingly enough, this has been evoked with the word "intifada" and I doubt anyone simplifies the outbreak of the resistance back in '87 as a single incident with Palestinians getting "bent out of shape". There is plenty of history here and, typically of everything in history, it just needed a catalyst. The right-wing government was/is unpopular and the unrest has finally erupted.

If only Americans/Canadians/Australians/British etc. could emulate this mass mobilisation against the crimes of their own state? If only the Palestinians were capable of paralysing the Knesset with the same effectiveness?

  7. Phil is implying that the world is convulsed with outrage over the greek police shooting of a 15-year old, but as usual he has not bothered to think clearly. There is no world outrage. There are riots in Greece, that's all.
