JTA:
Dennis Ross said the United States should back a cease-fire in Gaza only if it ensures that Hamas "can't rebuild."
"We want some stability," said Ross, a former top Middle East negotiator in the Clinton administration, in a talk at Temple Beth Ami in Rockville, Md.
Foreign Policy:
Former U.S. Mideast peace envoy Dennis Ross is said to be in
negotiations for a possible role as U.S. special envoy on Iran, plus
possibly a more expansive portfolio

Does she know she is a lucky one?
Here is the scene that Dennis Ross will face when he arrives for his job interview. Note the fascist serried rank of flags, even in the cramped rented conference room.
Cropped off on the right edge of the photo by the blog margin (visit NYT link below to see the missing zionist), with dark circles round his eyes, Rahm Emanuel looks like a raccoon who just raided the garbage can. Hope them food scraps was kosher, Rahm.

Putting Dennis Ross in charge of Iran policy means that real negotiation with Iran is not Obama's intention. It is clear that DR works for Aipac and his loyalty is to Israel. Outright war today is not possible, but after a series of failed negotiations (Camp David anyone?) and a fabricated crisis ("there is no one to talk with") then the table will be set for more war. How in the world can this not be seen by the people around Obama.
Dennis Ross is quoted as saying "We want some stability." The important word being "We". Now there are a few angles we could analyse here (ie that Israeli stability also equals American stability and that he was speaking as an American with a stake in this conflict) but on first impression he speaks as if he is on the frontlines in Israel.
Could we have an Iranian-American appointed as US special envoy to Israel?
I think that Phil is coming to the realization that America under Obama will live up to his slogan, with a slight addendum:
Yes, we can.. continue to provide Israel with a blank check and unquestioning support.
All appointments thus far, all possibilities for significant roles in Middle East affairs point to a continuation of America's shame.
Call me a cynic; I consider it a synomym for realist.
