Daniel Pipes tempers his usual fevers– "How deep runs Obama's antipathy toward the Jewish state?" he asks, in a column that paints the Democratic left as "anti-Zionist" (I wish)– with an awakening or two:
Democrats cooled[toward Israel] in the post-Cold War period (after 1991), when many came to see it as an "apartheid" state that destabilizes the Middle East and impedes U.S. policies there….[Following the Netanyahu/Obama meeting] even a lack of progress toward a Palestinian state can prompt a crisis,
while an Israeli strike against Iran's nuclear infrastructure contrary
to Obama's wishes might cause him to terminate the bond begun by Harry Truman, enhanced by John Kennedy, and solidified by Bill Clinton.
Solidified by Clinton: a Democrat, the most philosemitic president in history, who watched the settlements double. Pipes even mentions the lobby here. Thanks to Antony Loewenstein for the headsup.

RE: "Daniel Pipes tempers his usual fevers" MY COMMENT: Finally taking his meds?
What? No shout out to LBJ! Johnson was perhaps most responsible for shifting the relationship with Israel. it was LBJ that OK'ed selling large amounts of attack aircraft without agreeing to nuclear inspections and usage limitations.
You're implying he met with your doctor? Decided to follow your regimine?
LBJ also ordered the Navy not to rescue the USS Liberty. Assault on the Liberty
Daniel Pipes interprets the United States looking out for its own interests by ceasing political and financial subsidization of ethnic cleansing and colonization as 'deep antipathy to the Jewish state'. After all that Americans have sacrificed for Israel for decades, his words reek of arrogant self-entitled contempt for the rest of us.
How old are you, Berel?
How old are you, Adolph?
Americans have sacrificed nothing for Israel.
I am going to assume that your comment stems from lack of knowledge and not ingratitude. Read The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy for some basic background.
