‘Severe nervousness’ in Israel

Peres Laura Rozen's report at Foreign Policy on the Obama-Peres meeting suggests that there are stormclouds on the horizon--"severe nervousness" in Israel over Obama's signals on Iran and settlements--and, more interesting, a shrewd deployment by Obama of Jewish White House aides Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod to say to the Israelis, We're not with the lobby, we're with the boss, and he is tired of your dithering on Palestinian statehood... Look again at the White House photo, and you can see the two powerful aides beaming and sitting back, standin by their man.

I looked at the photo as instructed. Seems to me that Peres is also "beaming". And just think, it was just a few short months ago that Rahm's loyalty was questioned. My, my, my.

Well, you're right. I always thought Rahm's role in the administration would be to ensure that Obama always deferred to Israel. If it turns out I was wrong I couldn't be more pleased.
