In 2003, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Republican, Florida) chaired the Mideast Subcomittee of the House International Relations Committeee. It was to this subcommittee that Rep. Brian Baird’s HCR111 asking for an independent investigation into Rachel Corrie’s death was referred. We were told that the chair of the comittee could decide to move a resolution out of comittee and often did so. We were also told by staffers in other offices that once Rachel’s resolution went to this committee it was dead. (It was from this committee that many of the anti-Iraq/Iran/Syria legislation originated.)
Iowa Representative Jim Leach who sat on the House International Relations Committee arranged for Rachel’s family members to meet with Ros-Lehtinen after we had attempted to do so several times and met roadblocks. She assured Rep. Leach that she would meet with us. However, when we attempted to set up an appointmtment on several occasions when we were in D.C. she could never accomadate us.
I came to believe that this subcommittee was a major leader in roadblocking any mideast peace. There appeared to be a strong Christian Right/Jewish coalition with Ros-Lehtinen in control on the Republican side and Sherman, Berman, Elliot, Ackerman supporting on the Democratic side and Tom Lantos overseeing everything, Israel was well protected even if it could not accomplish a credible investigation into an American citizen’s death – let alone the larger Israel /Palestine tragedy.
Ros Lehtinens’ views on the middle east are so lopsided and unfair hard to imagine how the woman sees straight. Her push for anti Palestinian legislation is almost criminal
The lot as a whole, all three branches of our government are blind to the facts they are complicit in the law breaking or just have been paid so much $ that they are willing to sell their souls. I have really wondered why there has not been any cable outlet to show the same as this site does, it would make a world of difference to open the eyes of people daily just as the misinformation has blinded them from right and wrong and criminal acts. What an example he usa government gives to its citizens that it is alright to murder and lie in the name of some almighty dude that does not exist and have the majority of people believing the misinformation. Sort of how the health care system is flawed with so much lies and political undertow. On the other hand the rothchilds aka Bauer should also be exposed for who and what they are. Even worse still the amounts of money taken that the next generations will surely be put to the grind to get out of the mess that these bankers and the three branches of government put us in
