"Goldstone is a small man, devoid of any sense of justice, a technocrat with no real understanding of jurisprudence [except in Bosnia and South Africa under apartheid apparently]," [Israeli president Shimon] Peres told his Brazilian counterpart, adding that the South African jurist "was on a one-sided mission to hurt Israel."
Referring to Goldstone’s recommendation to investigate possible war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza, Peres said, "If anyone should be investigated, it should be him."
Goldstone was supposed to be the gate keeper as it were, the one guy who could put out a milder report than what the commission had called for, but Israel used him as a scapegoat. In a twisted way, the old adage somehow applies here, “No good deed goes unpunished”.
Why doesn’t Peres just call Goldstone a war criminal and be done with it?

Peres, as usual, played the ‘fiddler on the roof’ – he also complained about Arabs pushing Jews to the Sea, inviting Mahmud Abbas to negotiate with Bibi as Peres and Rabin’s old “good friend”, and naturally asking Lula to help Israel to stop Iran becoming a nuclear threat to Israel.
However, Lula told Peres in the joint press conference: “You do not build peace if you do not talk to all political and religious forces, those that want peace and those that oppose peace. We need to talk more and find more partners who want to help in peace-building in the Middle East. And we do not refuse to talk to anyone, as long as in that chat we can get a word, or at least, or at least a comma, that might help peace. You (Peres) know that there will be no peace without political concessions.”

Peres is a war criminal who ordered the Qana UN bakery Masacre in south Lebanon which killed 124 civilians, mostly mothers and children, as they stood in line to buy bread.

Now this is interesting, potsherd! Are you saying that if a one-state solution comes to pass, Palestinians who were victims of Israeli intransigence and lawbreaking would be able to (if only figuratively) have Israelis “dragged from their beds and into the dock to answer for their deeds”? I mean, if they presented evidence and got indictments and all, of course.
But that sure does put an interesting angle on the one-state solution. So we can assume Israel will hold out for an amnesty? Me, I would seek private justice, had I the means. (Which, I might add, I don’t, but that’s another story)
Looks to me that the Israeli fear of getting “slaughtered” is really a very rational fear of being brought to book for their crimes. How’s that gonna work with a one-State solution? And how will Palestinians (and many Israelis, for that matter) feel about having these criminals, unpinished or sanctioned, in their midst. Will they be good citizens of the one-state?

Not that any of this, will, or should, impede the efforts toward BDS, and every other kind of possible international estrangement for Israel.
Generally in cases like this, as Goldstone has said, there truth and reconciliation committees and mutual forgiveness, with release of prisoners, etc. This would be one reason for Israelis to support a peace agreement – one state or two – in order to ensure the immunity from prosecution of their war criminals.
Such an agreement would have to be ratified by the UN, though, in order to immunize them from international justice.
btw – speaking of criminals and thugs – has anyone but me ever wondered if Mohammed Dahlan and Gabi Ashkenazi were separated at birth?
