Here's an idea for a good article in the New York Times -- a profile of Uri Davis, the Israeli Jew who is an elected member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council. Davis calls himself "a Hebrew Palestinian." Why can we only read about such interesting people in the alternative press, like the distinguished In These Times?

I just spoke with an Israeli who argued that Israelis wanted peace while if any Palestinian dared to call for peace in the West Bank, he would be immediately hanged from a lamp post. I didn’t even know where to start. (Are there lamp posts in the West Bank? I don’t remember seeing any.)
I think if I told him an Israeli Jew was a member of Fatah, his head would explode.
What does that mean “call for peace”? Abbas “calls for peace” all the time. Of course his terms are 5 million Arabs “returning” to Israel which is a non starter.
Typical neocon. Doesn’t even understand the meaning of the word “peace” and the enforcement of human rights and international law for anyone other than white people is a “non starter.”
Having lived for years in the Palestinian town of Um el-Fahm, within Israel, Davis also stresses the situation of Palestinian citizens of Israel – the “’48″ Palestinians – in the broader Palestinian context (as opposed to simply advocating equal and/or communal rights within Israel). It thus makes perfect sense that he would welcome the idea of the “Western Front”.
