Israeli gov’t embraces radical settler movement with connection to 6th Avenue fabric store

I failed to pick up on this last week, but a high government official in Israel held a public meeting with Itamar Marcus, who is evidently a member of the Marcus family that owns a fabric store on Sixth Avenue in New York that serves as the address for tax-deductible American donations to the settler movement. We covered the Marcus operation a lot last year on this site: the Central Fund of Israel. It has gotten money from Ace Greenberg, formerly of Bear Stearns, Kirk Douglas, and Michael Milken, formerly of the X-shaped junkbond-trading desk. And some of the money went to militias in the West Bank for urgent security needs. So the Israeli government and our government continue to subsidize the violent colonization of the West Bank. And ultra-Zionists depend as they always have on American support. We are one! as Zionist Melvin Urofsky titled his book on Diaspora support for Israel, in a word, the lobby.

Here is Hanan Ashrawi in the Hill of all places, God bless the Hill, picking up on the collusion of an extremist government with an extremist movement, which the American press still hasn’t cottoned to:

At a press conference last week, Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon appeared alongside Itamar Marcus, a right-wing settler and director of an Israeli NGO called Palestinian Media Watch, to receive a report produced by PMW. Later in the week, Marcus appeared on Capitol Hill to present his report to Congress. In the U.S., PMW has been running ads on major television networks of late echoing the accusations of incitement against President Abbas and Prime Minister Fayyad.

What Ayalon and Marcus failed to mention is that PMW is closely connected to the New York-based Central Fund of Israel, which gives money to some of the most extreme elements in Israel’s settler movement, including a yeshiva in a West Bank settlement that is home to Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, who published a book last year justifying the killing of gentile babies on the grounds they might grow up to pose a threat to the state.

      FROM WIKIPEDIA: Cult
      (excerpt)…Studies performed by those who believe that some religious groups do practice mind control have identified a number of key steps in coercive persuasion:[28][29]
      • People are put in physically or emotionally distressing situations;
      • Their problems are reduced to one simple explanation, which is repeatedly emphasized;
      • They receive unconditional love, acceptance, and attention from a charismatic leader;
      • They get a new identity based on the group;
      • They are subject to entrapment (isolation from friends, relatives, and the mainstream culture) and their access to information is severely controlled.[30]…

    PA religious leaders call for genocide of Jews

    Twice in three days, PA religious leaders have openly called for the genocide of Jews. Broadcast on official PA TV, both called for the murder of Jews until the Jewish people are annihilated. Both presented the killing of Jews not merely as the will of Allah, but also as a necessary stage in history that should be carried out now.

    “I’ve been told to restrict or restrain what I say. . . . I hope no one is recording me or taking any pictures, as none are allowed . . . because I’m going to speak the truth to you,” Siyam reportedly said at the conference. “It’s simple. Finish off the Israelis. Kill them all! Exterminate them! No peace ever! Do not bother to talk politics.”

    Following the murderous terrorist attack on Kibbutz Metzer, the PLO cold-bloodedly stated on its official website, “We will continue to strike in any place, targeting their children as well.” Five innocent Israelis, including a mother and her two little boys, were butchered in that attack, all of them, Fatah said, “Zionist colonizers” killed in a “qualitative operation in the settlement of Metzer.”

    Here’s how the official Palestinian Authority newspaper Al-Hayat al-Jadida headlined its coverage: “Five Israelis killed in an attack on the settlement Metzer.” The report continued, “A Palestinian infiltrated the settlement Metzer and opened fire on the settlers.” It is not well known that the Palestinian press frequently refers to towns in Israel, such as Holon and Kiryat Shmona, as “settlements.” Besides implying that all of Israel is an illegitimate colonial outpost, such references clearly are brought to justify the killings and distinguish them from terrorism.

    After the Tel Aviv massacre on January 12th 2003, where 2 Palestinian homicide bombers massacred 23 Israeli civilians. The PLO web site posted a statement — celebrating the attacks:
    “With faith in the calling of holy jihad,” it said, “two suicide attackers . . . succeeded this evening to infiltrate the Zionist roadblocks and to enter the heart of . . . Tel Aviv and carried out two consecutive suicide attacks… These suicide attacks caused a large number of fatalities and casualties in the center of the Zionist occupation of our land. We swear before our people that additional suicide operations will occur.”
    That is a view with which much of Arab opinion concurs. ArabicNews.com, for example, datelined its story on the Tel Aviv attack “Palestine-Israel,” and reported that the bombings had killed “23 Israeli settlers.”

      Suicide bombings, bloodthirsty language and non-acceptance of Israel add up to a genocidal aim but not mass expulsion and denationalization, land invasions, aerial bombings and blockades of livestock.

  4. Does any Iranian organization, abroad or expat, do anything that is the equivalent of this one, relatively minor player in perpetuating the lifeline to zionist Israel?

    caveat: (or weasel): MEK does not count.

    • Hasbara/Camera really ought to be more selective about whom it chooses to work for it. A modicum of intelligence and an argument approaching semi-rational would do wonders. Perhaps, however, some of the specimens here are beginners working for food packages.

    • Sumud says:

      “Maybe Philip supports the genocidal aims of the Arabs.”

      I’m reasonably sure Philip feels the same about a jewish/Israeli genocide as most of the 300 million arab population.

    • Israel celebrates its own terrorists. See here.

      As for genocidal statements, the state-supported settlers have made quite a few… Not to speak of rabbis. One of them once called to kill one million Gazans. If that’s not genocidal, what is.

    Note from “Turbulent Times in Palestine, The Diaries of Khalil Totah, 1886-1955″ (Institute of Palestine Studies, 2009):

    February 28, 1939: As it appears that the Jews are losing their case in London, they started violence. Bombs in Haifa killed 2 Arabs & wounded 3rd. The bus from Ramallah to Jerusalem carrying Arab officials was shot at by a Jew in Mea Sharim near Italian Hospital. 11 bullets from an automatic pistol. Bomb exploded in bazaar in Jerusalem & killed 5 Arabs, wounding others.

    March 1, 1939: A bomb containing (it is said) 50 lb. of explosive matter was found in a tin in the bazaar not far from Haram [in Old City, Jerusalem]. It was on the roof of a house. A policeman discovered in time. It was set to explode at 8 AM; the wire was detached and all was well. The last few days have been days of children parades & demonstrations as jubilation over prospective Arab independence. * * *

    What was going on? In London? Everyone seems to have read it wrong! Maybe it was this, from wikipedia, approving One State and Arab majority in 1949:

    The White Paper of 1939, also known as the MacDonald White Paper after Malcolm MacDonald, the British Colonial Secretary who presided over it, was a policy paper issued by the British government under Neville Chamberlain in which the idea of partitioning the Mandate for Palestine, as recommended in the Peel Commission Report of 1937, was abandoned in favour of creating an independent Palestine governed by Palestinian Arabs and Jews in proportion to their numbers in the population by 1949 (section I). A limit of 75,000 Jewish immigrants was set for the five-year period 1940-1944, consisting of a regular yearly quota of 10,000, and a supplementary quota of 25,000, spread out over the same period, to cover refugee emergencies. After this cut-off date, further immigration would depend on the permission of the Arab majority (section II). Restrictions were also placed on the rights of Jews to buy land from Arabs (section III).
    Wmhite_Paper_of_1939

    The White Paper was published on 9 November 1938, and approved by Parliament in May 1939.
    - – - -
    During the Arab Revolt 1936-1939, the Brits disarmed the Arabs to a large extent whilst the Jews created their secret army, Hagana. The result was an unequal struggle in 1947 (or, perhaps, a more than otherwise unequal struggle). so, the MacDonald White Paper promised an Arab-majority Single State, and this energized the Jews, and a lot of history happened!

  8. Is it too easy to observe the cheap irony that Marcus, some sort of fabric mogul on NY’s Avenue of the America’s, show us once again, however unintentionally, that the Israeli emperor has no clothes?
