Another reason to read the Goldstone Report

The Independent is pushing a story that Amy Teibel of AP got out yesterday, that 42 percent of the West Bank is now occupied by Israeli settlers (yes and how much of the water?). "Exposed: the truth about Israel's landgrab," says the Independent headline. I would just like to point out that Richard Goldstone reported this a year ago. Paragraph 198: "According to United Nations sources, almost 40 per cent of the West Bank is now taken up by Israeli infrastructure associated with the settlements, including roads, barriers, buffer zones and military bases." Some day this report will have the honor it deserves. Yes, and how much of the water?

    >> 42 percent of the West Bank is now occupied by Israeli settlers … almost 40 per cent of the West Bank is now taken up by Israeli infrastructure associated with the settlements, including roads, barriers, buffer zones and military bases.

The ONLY reason for the current situation is the lack of hugs provided by Palestinians to Israelis. Unfortunately, with the scared soldier’s boot firmly on his neck, it’s kind of hard for a Palestinian to offer up that hug…

    Well since you asked twice:

AFAIK 100% of the water is controlled by Israel, with around 60% of Israel proper’s freshwater (not including recycled water) being extracted illegally from the West Bank aquifers. The settlers receive more than 300L a day, West Bank/EJ Palestinians on average 75L a day and some much much less.

As many as 200k Palestinians in Area C often have no running water at all, any infrastructure they build to capture rainwater is destroyed whether it’s a ground reservoirs or tanks on the roof (permits aren’t issued) and some families are spending as much as 25% of their income just on purchasing water.

Two in-depth reports on the water issue:

    WATER SECTOR DEVELOPMENT’

    October 2009:

Sure smells like napalm to me.
