We are extremely excited to announce our first staffers: Allison Deger has agree to join us as assistant editor and Alex Kane has agreed to be our first ever staff reporter. This marks a milestone for the site and we couldn't be happier to bring both of them on board.
Allison has broad experience in journalism and activism. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied Peace and Conflict Studies and Middle Eastern Studies, she has worked with advocacy organizations in the Bay Area, New York, and France, on issues relating to human rights in the Middle East, and Islamophobia in the U.S. She previously worked for The Nation magazine, and truthout.org. Allison lives in the Bay Area, where she has worked as a researcher in a collaborative with Global Exchange. Her research focuses on private security contractors, detention and deportation.
For those of you who are regular visitors to Mondoweiss, Alex will need no introduction. He has been a tireless contributor here for the last two years, focusing on US politics, activism on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Islamophobia and has also reported from Israel/Palestine. In addition to his work here he has appeared in the Indypendent, a free New York City-based newspaper, Electronic Intifada, Common Dreams, Palestine Chronicle, Red Pepper (UK), Extra!, AlterNet, Salon, and the Gotham Gazette. You can learn more about Alex's work on his website here.
For us, Allison's addition will mean a higher level of professionalism in our posting and journalism; Alex's addition will mean we will be able to offer more original reporting than ever before. Please join us in welcoming Allison and Alex!
