‘Obama should be called the Bibi sitter’

Netanyahu lecturing ObamaIf you go to 9:00 or so of this video of President Obama meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu on September 30 at the White House, you will see some fairly excruciating moments in body language as the prime minister explains a thing or two to the president. Netanyahu’s legs are apart and his gut is spilling out as he gestures at Obama, who has all but assumed the fetal position. Obama seems to want to be anywhere else, like dealing with the government shutdown.

The screenshot above reminds us how much time Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yair Lapid got from our president and vice president even when they were supposedly working to stop the government shutdown. And is reminiscent of Obama’s famous statement to Sarkozy, “You think you can’t stand him? I have to deal with him every day.”

Goliath author Max Blumenthal brings the Sarkozy episode up in an an interview at Consortium News with Dennis Bernstein, in which he calls Obama the “Bibi sitter.”

DB: Can you talk about what former [French] President Sarkozy and [U.S. President] Obama (who seems to love meeting with Netanyahu) said about meeting with the guy?

MB: This was a fascinating and overlooked episode that upset the Israeli embassy in the U.S. It upset Netanyahu and Sarkozy. They [Sarkozy and Obama] were caught on open mike at the G-20. Sarkozy said to Obama, “I can’t stand Netanyahu. He’s a complete liar.” Obama said, “You think you can’t stand him? I have to deal with him every day.”

Obama wasn’t exaggerating. He’s had to meet with Netanyahu more times than any other foreign leader. Netanyahu is the Prime Minister of a country with about seven million, compared to the U.K. which is an international power with a special relationship with the U.S. When Netanyahu’s father died, Benzion Netanyahu, Obama issued an effusive press release praising this character who had himself called for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, made racist statement after racist statement about Arabs, calling them desert people who are primitive by nature.

When the father of David Cameron, the Prime Minister of the U.K. died, Obama issued no press release – nothing was said. It is clear what is going on here. He can’t stand him but must constantly meet with him. Netanyahu is back in the White House again to demand more sanctions against Iran from Obama.

This week, Obama must deploy endless resources, hours, to babysit Netanyahu. Obama should be called the Bibi sitter.

OMG! I almost spit out my food when I read that headline. Laughing and eating can’t be done simultaneously.

  2. just says:

I would prefer that the American people get “face time” with our President and Reps and Senators rather than Netanyahu and his co- conspirators.

  3. just says:

All of Congress and America and every President since, before and after, James Earl Carter have been the Bibi (Zio) sitters.

(at least Mr. Carter tried to speak the truth!)

  4. dbroncos says:

Bibi’s diaper needed changing and his colicky tantrums needed to be soothed so, naturally, POTUS put on hold his responsibilities in the midst of an American leadership crisis like we haven’t seen in decades. It’s unimaginable that Xi Jinping would lend his ear to to Kim Jong-un under comparible circumstances.

  5. It is clear that Netanyahu and Obama have a “different” relationship. You focus on the difficulty and certainly when Netanyahu is holding court in front of the press it is very painful to watch.

But as far as the time in private spent with Netanyahu. This could be time well spent. With Syria, Iran and Egypt at the top of Obama’s foreign policy plate, I would bet that Obama would enjoy plumbing Netanyahu’s mind on those three countries. I bet you the right wing son of a historian who has access to intelligence reports would really be interesting for a smart man like Obama to question about these countries at this point of time.

You treat Bibi as if he knows nothing. but it’s not true. And you show your prejudice with your false assessment.

    • Woody Tanaka says:

I doubt there is anything that this racist right winger can tell Obama that would be of any value. The fact that Netanyahoo’s racist old man was a historian is irrelevant, as the old bigot infused his work with the same vile racism that his kid has.

No, Obama is sitting there doing his penance because pro-Israeli Jews and other zios in America have twisted the American political system to the point where appeasing this shitty little state takes precedence of the interests of the American people during a domestic crisis.

      • Woody Tanaka- I am not surprised about your reaction, but this domestic crisis angle to this story is just baloney. As you can see the domestic crisis was solved by Obama waiting the GOP out. Doesn’t take much thinking to do that. You could watch t.v. in the meanwhile and get the same result. So spare me the domestic crisis nonsense.

        • Woody Tanaka says:

“As you can see the domestic crisis was solved by Obama waiting the GOP out.”

Well, you might have a magical machine that can see into the future to see how the crisis was going to shake out, but I doubt Obama does. And besides, this was not the only domestic issue going on at that time. Hell, *any* domestic issue would be a better use of his time — and doing his job for the USA and the American people — than having to demean himself by being in the same room as this vile fascist to hear the concerns about the ethnic cleansers in his Apartheid state.

    • Cliff says:

Israeli ‘intelligence’ is a big lie. It’s not intelligence – it’s propaganda. It’s ideology.

This seems wildly unlikely to be a productive use of Obama’s time. I agree that there are probably Israelis within the Israeli intelligence services who know a lot. Whether they’d tell the truth to the head of a foreign government, or even to their own press when they are still in office, is a separate question. But Netanyahu? He’s got every reason to spin and twist and lie about whatever legitimate intelligence the Israelis do have.

Put it another way. Would it have been useful for someone to have plumbed the depths of Cheney’s mind in 2002-2003 regarding WMD’s in Iraq? Sure, if you could strap him down and fill him with truth serum (if such a thing actually works).

      • Donald- I do not have a comic book image of Netanyahu nor of Obama. I believe the Arab Spring is a moment of great uncertainty and I think bibi and Mister Obama are two intelligent people who know a lot of facts. I think Obama is a thinking person, who can ask good questions like any good lawyer and would benefit from hearing bibi’s take on Egypt and Syria and Hezbollah. Cheney on WMD’s is a question of the propaganda reason for going to war and obviously would not yield any useful answers. Bibi on Egypt, Syria and even Iran: I think Obama would benefit from hearing Bibi’s take.

  6. dbroncos says:

It’s unimaginable that we would see a photo which featured Kim Jong-un aggressively leaning forward in his chair, delivering a lecture to a Xi Jinping while he retreated into his seat back with slumped shoulders and a reticent look on his face. Is there a tail-wags-dog relationship between any other two client/benefactor states that rivals the one on display here? Where is the pride?

  7. Kathleen says:

I thought Obama’s body language was commanding especially when he listened to Bibi. He seemed like he was really listening but not willing to suck up the bullshit. Bibi repeats the endlessly repeated hooey “Iran is committed to Israel’s destruction” Then Bibi repeats that Israel wants Iran to “dismantle their nuclear program” Not going to happen Bibi not going to happen.

At one point when Obama was speaking I thought he was taking a subtle shot at Israel by saying that Iran must abide by “all International laws and resolutions” That would be Israel that is completely unwilling to do so.

Obama did say that if Iran had a nuclear weapon that could start an “arm’s race” We all know Israel started that race decades ago with their massive stockpile of nuclear, biological weapons that are not inspected, not even declared. Oh yeah Israel has yet to sign the Chemical Weapons Agreement along with being unwilling to sign the NPT.

Obama also said that there was a “limited amount of time to achieve the goal” of a two state solution. Many experts believe that time passed long ago.
