My father forwarded this, and it’s so damn funny, thought I’d share. (Do you notice the subtle pro-Israel whining in the first scene, 5 seconds in… the CNN headlines?)
On a more serious note, if you’re planning a Seder this Passover season, please use the Love + Justice in a Time of War Haggadah. It’s the best one I’ve seen that fully recognizes the humanity of the Palestinian people… and the Israelis.
Classic lines:
Ten Plagues of the Occupation of Palestine
1. Home demolitions
2. Uprooting Olive Trees
3. Blockades and Checkpoints
4. Destruction of Villages
(and so on)
Ten Plagues of the Occupation on Jewish People
1. Distorting and censoring Jewish voices against the occupation, by branding dissenters as self-hating Jews
5. Dishonoring the memory of our ancestors who were murdered, from the Inquisition to the Shoah (Nazi Holocaust)
(and so on)
Of all the Jewish holidays, Passover is the one whose mythology most clearly poses a direct moral challenge to Israel’s racist, colonial, apartheid policies… if only that challenge could be seen clearly. All too often at mainstream Jewish seders, the Palestinians are ignored, and any mention results in a rebuke about bringing up “politics” from privileged, unaware Jews.
When that happens, I want to scream, “Don’t you see? The government of Israel is Pharaoh! Ethnic cleansing is Pharaoh!”
