Brave ‘NYT’ exposes depth of Obama ties to the a lobby

on 13 Comments

Finally! Front-page, above the fold, the New York Times rips off the veil of secrecy surrounding the extent to which the Israel lobby influences U.S. policy:

HEADLINE: Lobby E-Mails Show Depth of Obama Ties to Israel

By Jodi Rudoren

A new batch of e-mails between administration officials and Israel lobbyists underscore the compromises the president made that contravene his stated policy opposing settlements and supporting Palestinian statehood on the 1967 borders.

Oops. Um, a few typos above. The actual NYT story appears below:

I can’t find a good use for the NYT. But should the newspaper start printing on toilet paper, I’d buy rolls of it.

The House and Home section (page 2) of the weekend (June 9/10, 2012) US edition of the Financial Times has a flattering profile of former Congresswoman Jane Harman who is now Director, President, and CEO of the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington, DC. No author for the puff piece is listed but it does not mention that Shamai Leibowitz is in Federal Prison for revealing that, as translator for the FBI he reported to his bosses that Congresswoman Harman had shared classified information with Israeli agents, going public because the FBI refused to take action against her.

I think it is safe to say that the Wilson Center was well aware that they were putting an Israeli agent in charge. That a “liberal” Democrat is in charge of a right wing foundation that supports drone warfare and promotes the notion that Arab women are losers in the Arab Spring, is something we have come to expect in our wacky world where most of Americans’ misinformation comes from the top.

What kind of reporter for the Financial Times would omit mention of Shamai Leibowitz or is the FT, like the NY Times, NPR, etc., a mouthpiece for the Israel Lobby?

There was this case against Illinois governor Blagoviech resulting in a successful prosecution ,his crime was promise of senator seat for money. Interesting harman got away with something quite similar( unless I am missing something.) One guy in jail and another get to shape public opinion ,offer sound advice, and shape policy.
      Isn’t life wonderful ?

“Six days, 45 years later” –

a remarkable op-ed in LA Times last wed. by Miro Peled, Israeli activist living in San Diego and the author of the recently published book, “The General’s son, journey of an Israeli in Palestine.”

& in today’s LA Times Peled responds to a letter from a reader who disputes his Wednesday’s op-ed insistence that the 1967 war was one of choice and conquest and not of defense against an existential threat. Peled’s response to this letter ends with “Claims are made that a ‘one state solution’ is impossible but Israel has created a one state reality in which nearly half the population is Palestinian. One cannot seriously speak of peace without speaking of the necessity to transform Israel into a binational democracy from the current binational apartheid reality.”

op-eds such as this one, along with last year’s from a Hamas leader (don’t recall his name) indicate that the LA Times is opening up its opinion pages to non/anti-zionist perspectives.

RE: “Brave ‘NYT’ exposes depth of Obama ties to a lobby”

SEE: Broken Shards of My Heart: The US in Decline, by David Michael Green, Common Dreams, 6/09/12

(excerpts) . . . This country is dying, let’s be clear. It may live yet. It may survive for decades in slow decline. It may find a way in utter crisis to throw off, before it is too late, the fat slimy boa which is squeezing every last cent of value out of it. Its political class may invent a devastating foreign crisis with massively grim consequences in order to deflect public attention from its manifest failings. Maybe it will even be some combination of all of the above.
Who knows? What we can be sure of, however, is that what was once a great and promising idea as much as a nation is now decrepit to the core, and rapidly rotting away, and that these wounds are entirely self-inflicted. That, for me, is the kicker. The Soviets didn’t invade and take us over. We didn’t succumb to some raging virus like the Black Plague. A meteor didn’t blast a hole in the middle of North America. . .
. . .It will get far worse before it gets better, if it does. The Wisconsin election was widely and correctly seen as a dry run for November, but in fact November is already as over as is May or April. The hapless Obama people may not have gotten the word, but they are as dead as the unions in Wisconsin that they didn’t bother to support. And Obama will go down in near-term, right-wing renderings of history as another Jimmy Carter. Meanwhile, stupid liberals, who slavishly admired a decidedly right-wing, militarist, ultra-statist, corporate-serving Democratic president, will sit holding their heads in surprise at the damage wrought to the president himself, to his party, and to their cherished liberal principles. Um, sorry, but have y’all been snoozing through Afghanistan and Pakistan? Did you miss the whole presidential-ordered assassinations program? Have you not heard what has happened to whistleblowers? Did you forget the tax cuts and the offer to dismantle Medicare? Have you been watching Fox and not heard about the growth of military spending? Did you not know that the health care bill was co-authored by, and for the benefit of, insurance and pharmaceutical companies? . . .
. . . This country’s future looks grim in so many ways. You can just feel the doors and windows shutting, one by one. Are we really so far off, given the displays we’ve already seen, from being a corporate-owned polity, in which oceans of Citizens United sponsored propaganda limits the cognitive landscape of an entire country, sham elections and a steady stream of brain-numbing high-def television gruel satisfies most of the (obese) public enough to keep them stuck on their sofas, while a massive police state armed with domestic drone aircraft and angry cops deal swiftly with the few remaining malcontents stupid enough to demand a return to the better country we once knew? You know, more or less a carbon copy of Putin’s Russia, here in North America. . .

How about Obama’s opponent? Chris Bollyn has stated the following–I don’t have time now to check the asserted facts, but there’s enough meat to weigh I have not read anywhere else:
“ROMNEY’S ISRAELI HANDLER – Orit Gadiesh, former “War Room” assistant to Ezer Weizman and Moshe Dayan, is the daughter of Israeli Brigadier General Falk Gadiesh (born Falk Gruenfeld, Berlin, 1921) and his Ukrainian-born wife. Gadiesh is chairman of the management consulting firm Bain & Company, the parent company of Bain Capital, and was the company’s managing director under CEO Mitt Romney in 1992. “She’s like a Jewish mother figure to many of the people at Bain,” ex-Bainie Dan Quinn told Fortune magazine in 1996.
Bain Capital owns Clear Channel, the largest radio station group owner in the United States. Clear Channel owns the networks which air the most popular radio talk shows, including The Rush Limbaugh Show, The Glenn Beck Program, The Sean Hannity Show, America Now with Andy Dean, Coast to Coast AM, The Savage Nation, The Mark Levin Show, and The Dave Ramsey Show. (Graphic: “Rush Limbaugh Spills the Beans on the Jewish Conspiracy” by Pat Healy)
Mitt Romney was a co-founder of Bain Capital along with Bill Bain, seen here. Bain was ousted in 1991 and Romney served as CEO of Bain & Company in 1991-1992. In May 1991, while Romney was CEO, Gadiesh was named chairman of the company’s Policy Committee, which set the company’s business strategy and policy. In 1992, under Romney, she became managing director. Orit Gadiesh, who has worked at Bain & Co. since 1977, became chairman of Bain & Co. in 1993.
Orit Gadiesh, born in Israel in 1951, has worked closely with Mitt Romney since at least 1991, and probably much longer since she joined Bain & Company in 1977, when she was 26. Romney appointed Gadiesh to his transition team when he became governor of Massachusetts in November 2002. Gadiesh is the daughter of Falk Gadiesh, an Israeli brigadier general and former member of the general staff who reorganized the Israeli army in the early 1950s after a stint at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Falk’s daughter Orit was chosen to serve in Israeli military intelligence. Her first position in the Israeli military was as assistant to Ezer Weizman, the deputy chief of staff who later became president of Israel. During the early 1970s, she worked in the war room, a bunker where Gen. Moshe Dayan was in charge. As a war room assistant to Weizman, Orit provided military leaders with documents and correspondence.
Prior to joining Bain & Company, Gadiesh served in the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army. Currently, she is on the board of directors of the Peres Center for Peace, an organization headed by a former chief of staff of the Israeli military, Lt. General Amnon Lipkin-Shahak. The high-level Mossadnik Avner Azulay, managing director of the Marc Rich Foundation, is also on the executive board of the Peres Center.
ROMNEY’S INTELLIGENCE CHIEF AND CAMPAIGN ADVISER – Mitt Romney named Michael Chertoff, the Israeli agent who supervised the destruction of the crucial evidence of 9/11, co-chair of his counterterrorism and intelligence advisory committee in October 2011. The 9/11 cover-up continues.
Mitt Romney attended the Mossad’s “Herzliya Conference on Israeli Security” in 2007. Romney and the current Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu worked together as consultants at the Boston Consulting Group early in their careers.
Romney’s close relationship with Orit Gadiesh and Israeli military intelligence is the real reason he is the chosen candidate of the Zionist establishment. Romney is being supported by high-level Zionists, Israeli military intelligence, and their controlled media network. This relationship between the Israeli military and Mitt Romney, a presidential candidate, should be of great concern to all Americans because this is how the Israeli military plans to drag the United States into a war with Iran.”
