Thank you for another year of Mondoweiss

Media Analysis

As always we are humbled and excited to report that we have reached (and exceeded!) our fundraising goal for December. Thank you! We appreciate this vote of confidence and promise to continue full steam ahead in 2013.

The last year has been another period of incredible growth for the site. A review of site stats show that we hit nearly 9 million page views from 5.2 million visitors, some of whom made nearly 110,000 comments in the past year (you can compare these numbers to 2011 and 2010).

In 2012 Mondoweiss published over 3,400 posts — here were the top 10 viewed posts:

10. ’60 Minutes’ profiles Palestinian Christians, Michael Oren falls on his face by Adam Horowitz

9. Broadwell scandal not the first time Petraeus was sloppy with email — in 2010 he leaked his own emails scheming with neocon Max Boot by Adam Horowitz

8. Major olive producing village ordered to uproot 1,400 trees by May 1 by Allison Deger

7. ‘We have cancelled your booking’ — the criminalization of travel to the West Bank is laid bare to the world by Laura Durkay

6. Dissecting IDF propaganda: The numbers behind the rocket attacks by Phan Nguyen

5. Worldwide protests against Israeli aggression in Gaza

4. Judith Butler responds to attack: ‘I affirm a Judaism that is not associated with state violence’ by Judith Butler

3. Dear Red Hot Chili Peppers… by Tali Shapiro

2. ‘Savage’ NY subway ads get a make-over– revealing their true character by Philip Weiss

and number one, viewed over 84,000 times, – ‘Do you feel more Arab or more American?’: Two women’s story of being detained and interrogated at Ben Gurion by Najwa Doughman and Sasha Al-Sarabi

As you can see, half of these posts are by contributors in the broader Mondoweiss community, and it’s that community that continues to make the site what it is. Thank you for all the ways you have supported our work, and see you in the new year!

Thank you all for the great work you are doing. You’re advancing the cause of justice and that’s the best kind of work. Your message is spreading too. Here’s a small example:
A while ago my nephew asked me if there were any celebrities I admired for doing good work or who were people who inspired me. I mentioned that the “celebrity”, Phil Weiss, founder of Mondoweiss, is an inspiration to me because of his dedication and work towards the cause of equity and justice in I/P. I turned him on to the Mondoweiss site and explained to him a bit about what Phil, Adam and the whole crew at Mondo do towards improving understanding about I/P. On Christmas morning I unwrapped his present – a framed pencil drawing portrait of an unknown man. My nephew said, “Its Phil Weiss”. I’ve hung it on my wall and it reminds me of all the people who have dedicated themselves to a better world and particularly those who are hot in pursuit of a more just and peaceful ME.

Happy New Year to all at Mondoweiss! And thank you all so much.
My new year’s wish is for a real, substantial breakthrough towards peace in I/P as early as possible this year.
(I’ll hit the button as Big Ben bongs, in the faint hope that it’ll have some impact on the wish!)

Happy New Year to all and congratulations on another year’s work well done.
I am now in a remote location, most of the time unable to post, but in such times as I can connect, MW is my first stop for information on the topic we all care about.
Don’t know if you have featured poor Richard Falk’s crucifixion yet but, apropos the California antisemitism legislation story, here is a link:

I would love Mondoweiss to give of some space to support Mr. Falk.

is one more arab or more american?

    more israeli or more american?

& so on and so forth?

    labels aside, what ultimately decides?

    on whose side

    slave or slaveowner

    one person, one vote?

    from the get-go

Congratulations to all who write and comment on Mondoweiss. You are finally getting the wider readership you deserve.

For those of us who read but do not comment (ceding to those with greater competence on the subjects) seeing the blog show up on various lists (e.g. Charles Freeman/Salon) and the AP story etc. — it is most gratifying.

Congratulations on a successful 2012, and all the best for a 2013 that is at least as successful! :-)

And a Happy New Year to everyone here at Mondoweiss! :-)
