Maureen Dowd joins Joyce Carol Oates as expert on gender relations of Arabs

First Joyce Carol Oates offered herself as an expert on gender relations in the Arab world.

Where 99.3% of women report having been sexually harassed & rape is epidemic–Egypt–natural to inquire: what’s the predominant religion?

People took her to task for that. Now Maureen Dowd gets in on the act, in a column on the Weiner saga:

WHEN you puzzle over why the elegant Huma Abedin is propping up the eel-like Anthony Weiner, you must remember one thing: Huma was raised in Saudi Arabia, where women are treated worse by men than anywhere else on the planet.

Thanks to Max Blumenthal.

The Angry Arab: “All Arab-Americans had the same reaction to this trash: did Hillary also grow up in Saudi Arabia?” (http://angryarab.blogspot.nl/2013/07/stand-by-your-man.html)

Looking at what Carol oates have written before, she seems to be a provocateur – and blaming a whole religion is of course racist, apparently no one buy her books anymore…

As for Dowd, let her know what you think at: dowd[at]nytimes.com

Is Huma Abedin’s support for Anthony Weiner any different than Hillary Clinton’s support for Bill Clinton?

Huumm….I am pretty sure that if I had done what Weiner did, my wife would say my ‘ exposure days in the lime light were over if I wanted any kind of home to come home to…or anyone that would ever speak to me again .. and probably mandatory therapy for the rest of my natural life …at a minimum. I would likely have to move into the tree house in the back yard for a period of time in addition.

I find it as something very peculiar to United States, and indeed bizarre: wives being dragged to show “solidarity with the husbands” and thus appear with them at humiliating press conferences, court trials etc. In my native Poland there is no such expectation or such practice, and I dare to conjecture that it does not happen in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Weiner’s campaign seems to be the blessing to New York press that is starved of material during uneventful summer. There is a campaign for the seat of Mayor, but discussing candidates programs, views, records on issues etc. is singularly boring. I regret to say that even Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo succumbed to temptation of firing a cheap shot by citing verbatim the spokesgirl of Weiner:

It would be more gentlemanly to summarize the statement, that was quickly cited by NY Daily News (with a lot of dots, so people who do not know what t..t is must persuse TPM) http://www.nydailynews.com/news/election/anthony-weiner-spokeswoman-trashes-intern-olivia-nuzzi-article-1.1413361
and then everything is repeated in London sleasoids.
