Each year around 6,000 real estate brokers and agents from 62 countries around the world attend the RE/MAX annual convention in Las Vegas, so CODEPINK knew where to go challenge RE/MAX’s settlement profiteering. As CODEPINK co-founder Jodie Evans said, “People around the world are waking up to the immorality of settlement profiteering, and it is unclear why RE/MAX continues to risk its brand’s reputation through its involvement in illegal activities in the Occupied West Bank.”

I live inside a nation (Israel) embedded and indoctrinated with a sense of victimisation whilst inflicting the most unjust suffering, the most cruel and senseless oppression, on another people. I live in a nation embroiled in a self-righteous defensiveness without any ethical conscience, without any wish or ability to scrutinise the sickness of its own psyche.

2017 is a historic year in the history of Palestine, the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, 70th of the UN Partition resolution and 30th of the First Intifada. It will cement the new understanding of Zionism as a settler-colonialist project, underwritten by the west.

A study released in November 2015 by 416 Labs, a Toronto-based consulting firm, reveals that the New York Times portrays Islam and Muslims more negatively than alcohol, cancer, and cocaine. Based on a sentiment analysis of online and print headlines spanning 25 years and 2,667,700 articles, the study found “strong evidence that Islam/Muslims are consistently associated with negative terms in NYT headlines.”

Israel’s Channel 10 television station said this week that the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has rejected a proposal to build Gaza new electricity lines to support the power sector in the impoverished coastal enclave. The project reportedly received Israeli consent, but failed to get the green light from the PA. Hamas criticized Abbas for rejecting the long-awaited project. “Abbas is not willing to miss any occasion in which he can stave off his political foes, even if it is done at the expense of his people. This does not make difference with him at all,” Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zohri told Mondoweiss.
