Washington Post says Netanyahu and Clinton’s ‘common love of Hamilton’ could bring peace to Mideast

The Washington Post has been the most reliable channel for pro-Israel pap among prestige US media, and today it took its reputation for fatuousness to a new level. It headlined Juliet Eilperin’s story on Hillary Clinton’s telephone call to Jewish leaders– well, see for yourself.

And here’s the lead and nutty nut-graph of Eilperin’s story:

In a conference call Thursday with more than 500 American rabbis and Jewish leaders, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton emphasized her commitment to Israel — as well as the fact that both she and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu love the musical “Hamilton.”

Could the Broadway hit help foster Mideast peace? Most likely, not. But no one can question the two politicians’ sincere interest.

Adalah NY promptly landed on it, and so did a lot of other folks on twitter:

Writer Saladin Ahmed:

Yousef Munayyer of the US Campaign to End the Occupation tweeted, “No,” and then added: “Come to think of it, an obsession with recurring choreography and theatrics could produce a never-ending peace process. Not peace though.”

David Sirota of IBTimes could not believe it was a real headline, and he wrote:

This headline must be preserved forever so future generations after the apocalypse know how inane our society became

Jeet Heer wrote, “Kill me now.”

Billmon had the best line:

And this one too.

That reminds us of the real offense here: the Post is sanitizing Netanyahu’s reputation. He’s never sought peace with the Palestinians, never slowed the colonization of Palestinian lands, and bombed Gaza killing 500 children two years ago.

The Post soon changed the headline— “Clinton and Netanyahu share a common cause: love of the musical ‘Hamilton’” — but the original url of the story, and its absurdly credulous conceit, remain.

BTW, Hillary Clinton has said that if she becomes president, she wants to take the relationship with Israel “to the next level.” And that she will invite Netanyahu to the White House in her first month. So the Post is only playing its part, in that tragicomedy.

They should just add Bill to the mix and make it a threesome.

The intentionally multi-ethnic musical “Hamilton” would be prohibited in Israel.

Picture a Palestinian or Ethiopian actor portraying Ben-Gurion in some Israeli variant and you know why.

On her twitter page ZioTurd Eilperin wrote that her column was “in jest”. I responded, “The only joke is your integrity!” Then I sent a pic of Gaza in rubble and wrote, “Pals might enjoy “Hamilton too, but are busy fighting ethnic cleansing!”
