An amazing win (that you might not have heard about)

We all know the difference Mondoweiss makes. Please help them with a donation today - or any amount you can, instantly matched!

My name is Cameron, and I’m a Palestinian American artist and educator. My mother’s family is from Ramallah, Palestine where many of our aunts, uncles and cousins still live today.

And I’m Emma, a Jewish American teacher in Seattle. For the past 15 years I’ve organized in solidarity with Palestinian resistance. After traveling to Palestine in 2010 and 2011, I returned to the US with a deeper understanding of the Israeli occupation and apartheid system, and the overwhelming responsibility of the international community to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction.

We’re writing to tell you about an amazing win we just had, and the essential role Mondoweiss played in it.

And we hope you’ll jump in with a donation to support their work – especially during their Summer Match. We all need Mondoweiss, and they need us!

On June 14th, in response to the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, we helped lead a group of rank-and-file educators’ union members who brought a resolution to the Seattle Education Association Representative Assembly, declaring our solidarity with Palestinians.

And it passed with 90% voting in favor.

This historic vote made us just the second K-12 educators’ union in the country to pass a resolution in support of BDS and in opposition to US military aid to Israel and the Deadly Exchange between local police and the IDF.

Sadly, what probably won’t shock you is that national and local media simply would not run the story.

But Mondoweiss jumped in. They not only covered the decision, but the following week published an Op-Ed we co-authored on the End the Deadly Exchange campaign’s efforts to terminate the relationship between the Seattle Police Department and the Israeli Police and IDF.

This is why we must support Mondoweiss: it’s more than a news site. Mondoweiss is truly part of this movement, a place where organizers can learn from each other, debate next steps, and, not least of all, find inspiration and renew our determination to move forward!

Mondoweiss isn’t another corporate news site, which means they rely on grassroots donors for everything they do.

Will you join us in supporting their much-needed journalism with a donation today?

The continuous challenge faced by organizers in America surrounding Palestinian liberation is how difficult it is to earn press coverage. Oftentimes, publications shy away out of fear of backlash. Or sometimes when our wins to do get coverage, the story is told from the perspective, quite honestly, of the local Zionist advocacy organization or Israeli government representative.

Without truthful coverage, our wins are diminished and our ability to replicate those victories becomes that much harder.

Mondoweiss has always been a reliable source for in-depth reporting you cannot find in mainstream media. They provide a voice locally and globally in the fight for Palestinian liberation because they aren’t just reporting on the movement – they’re a key part of it.

We are honored to have written for Mondoweiss. We will continue to support the site and hope you will continue to support them as they provide news coverage that we simply will not get from the mainstream media. We are so grateful.
