Alan Dershowitz

Dershowitz says Peter Beinart seeks a “Final Solution” for the destruction of the Jewish state, “from the river to the see,” and that typo is just the beginning of a torrent of foolish mistakes by the Israel apologist.

The assault on BDS in the US and the rise of Democratic Party organizations to support Israel are evidence of the progress on the Palestine issue in the U.S. in the last decade. At last the matter is politicized. Some Democratic pols openly support Palestinian rights. This is where the struggle really needs to be, in Washington; and we can thank Benjamin Netanyahu and Bari Weiss for the damage they’ve done to their own cause.

Dan Gertler, Israeli looter of oil assets in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is too corrupt for the Trump administration, which has ruled that he cannot do business in the U.S. But Alan Dershowitz has now registered as a lobbyist for Gertler, presumably to argue for the removal of Treasury Department sanctions against Gertler as a “malign” actor.

Trump’s refrain that the Democrats are anti-Israel is a strategic effort to foster division among Democrats over Israel so that he can get Jewish donors and voters in 2020. That division exists. The party’s progressive base wants to strip US aid to Israel, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Israeli President Rivlin are leaping in to assure the Democratic establishment that Israel is above politics.

Jeffrey Epstein, the financier charged with sex trafficking, had friendships with many Israel supporters, from Les Wexner to Ehud Barak to Larry Summers. And there is speculation that Epstein, a mysterious international figure, had links to Israeli intelligence. Alan Dershowitz, Epstein’s former lawyer, says Israel is a factor in the case, alleging that the New Yorker is investigating his role in the case so as to hurt Netanyahu.

Anti-semitism used to mean job discrimination in universities and leading industries and stigmatization of Jews as “kikes.” Today Jews are socially included, and the definition has shifted to mean any strong criticism of Israel. That’s because Israel supporters must do anything they can to prevent support for BDS from entering the political mainstream.
