Anti-Zionist Jews Allege Censorship on Wikipedia

by Philip Weiss on June 6, 2008 · 6 comments

The Satmar group, True Torah Jews Against Zionism, is stating that a long article describing the group in neutral terms has been deleted from Wikipedia and replaced by four lines about the Satmar group in an article about anti-Zionist Jews. The group characterizes the deletion as politically-motivated censorship, and recommends that it be brought to the attention of John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, who it doesn't believe are antisemites.

(I'd note that Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss of Neturei Karta, and a guy holding a banner next to him, were the only Hasidim I saw around the AIPAC conference–what they call An Institution Perpetuating Atrocities and Catastrophe. Though yes, there are many Orthodox Jews in AIPAC. I introduced myself to Weiss and said I love what he says but am concerned about his position re Ahmadinejad, Holocaust denial. I said that I'd like to visit him in Monsey, N.Y. To be continued…)

More Zionist media spin/censorship:

Why is McClatchy Newspapers trying to scapegoat Iran for Zionist crimes?

The headline of the linked article from McClatchy Newspapers [“Did Iranian agents dupe Pentagon officials?” http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/40080.html ]– is highly misleading, and appears to be an attempt to scapegoat the current Iranian regime for the Iraq war lies, and what was likely a Neocon/Zionist operation that planned to use the US military to take out both Iraqi and Iranian regimes.

The article's first paragraph: “Defense Department counterintelligence investigators suspected that Iranian exiles who provided dubious intelligence on Iraq and Iran to a small group of Pentagon officials might have "been used as agents of a foreign intelligence service … to reach into and influence the highest levels of the U.S. government," a Senate Intelligence Committee report said Thursday.”

So far so good, presupposing that the article is going to follow the evidence to its logical conclusion, which is that the “agents of a foreign intelligence service” were working for Israel. Instead, it implies they were working for the Iranian government — and then later backtracks.

On the one hand, the article says: “The revelation raises questions about whether Iran may have used a small cabal of officials in the Pentagon and in Vice President Dick Cheney's office to feed bogus intelligence on Iraq and Iran to senior policymakers in the Bush administration who were eager to oust the Iraqi dictator.”

And yet, contradictorily, the article then goes on to state that the same cabal was hostile to the Iranian government and sought to demonize it by telling “the Americans about:
-Iranian "hit teams" they said were targeting U.S. personnel and facilities in Afghanistan.
-What they claimed was Shiite Muslim Iran's longstanding relationship with the secular Palestine Liberation Organization.
-"Tunnel complexes in Iran for weapons storage or exfiltration of regime leaders," and about the alleged growth of anti-regime sentiment in Iran.”

Given that two key figures mentioned in the article — Larry Franklin, a Christian Zionist convicted of passing classified intelligence to Jewish Zionists working for AIPAC, and Michael Ledeen, a Jewish Zionist and longtime advocate of overthrowing the Iranian mullahs — both have ties to the Israeli government, the only scenario that makes any sense is that the “Iranian cabal” (which the article also acknowledges was really a cabal of Iranian “exiles”) was working in cahoots with Zionist Pentagon Neocons to demonize both Iraq and Iran in the hope of overthrowing both at the behest of Israel.

Now let me [rewrite] a key paragraph from the article sticking to the central evidence, but casting it in a way that makes far more logical sense:

“The revelation raises questions about whether [Israel] may have used a small cabal of [Iranian exiles and Zionist] officials in the Pentagon and in Vice President Dick Cheney's office to feed bogus intelligence on Iraq and Iran to senior policymakers in the Bush administration who were eager to oust the Iraqi dictator. [Israel, which was targeted by Iraq with Scud Missiles in the Gulf war, was a mortal enemy of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.]

Why is McClatchy being so downright dishonest with its headline and then gumming up the facts in the body of the article? Is there a Neocon agent working as a McClatchy editor spinning and contorting facts in a way that implicates the Iranian government in the Iraq war lie? Why was the headline: “Did Iranian agents dupe Pentagon officials?” instead of “Did Iranian exiles and Neocons dupe Pentagon officials?”

These Neocon propagandists in media and government are so transparently dishonest and Zionist, it’s almost laughable — or would be if they weren’t trying to spin and lie America into another war for Israel and the war-profiteering complex, this time against Iran. — Chris Moore

Neturei Karta rabbis have stated that the Holocaust was God's punishment for Zionism. They also believe that the dismantlement of Israel is crucial for ushering in the Messianic age.

In essence, they are the mirror image of Christian Zionists, such as John Hagee, who believe that the creation of Israel will usher in the Second Coming of Christ, and who claim that God sent the Nazis as "hunters" to drive the Jews to the Land of Zion.

Speaking as someone who lost his family in the Holocaust, I find both of these views reprehensible.

However, I notice that while anti-Zionists describe these Christian fundamentalists as misguided fanatics, they routinely characterize Neturei Karta as deeply spiritual people of conscience. Enjoy your visit with Rabbi Weiss.

I don't see why you have to use the word "allege" in the title. It's now well known and proven that CAMERA and similar ultra-Zionist organizations have covert immoral astroturfing operations on Wikipedia. CAMERA had one of their more blatant recent efforts outed and many of the astroturfers were banned indefinitely. This happens all over the web, past and present.

speaking as a recovering christian zionist i will tell you that the leadership who led the christian flock into this misguided belief system is deceitful and self serving, they allied themselves with a powerful group of jewish zionist and, have never wanted to offend the jewish community in america because it would not have been wise to do so.

the paulian letters do not condone or support their theology.

The actual history of the mass murders of Jews in WW2 has so little connection to the popular Zionist discussion of the Holocaust and the Holocaust is so misused in American political discourse to justify Zionist atrocities and genocidalism that the Iranian Conference was hardly unreasonable.

In the USA today, we need far less in the way of Holocaust fantasies and far more in terms of serious studies of Yiddish history and culture.

Ed, (Chris Moore) have you studied the released parts of the report?

Is this the same John Walcott, the Washington Bureau Chief of Knights Ridder, under whom the rare investigations into the administrations pre-war arguments were written?

Could the headline be provocative? Does it pick out a larger argumentative strategy of the commission report, to carefully attack it?
