Lieberman, Pantaloon

I've listened to a couple of hours of the Republicans and have to go wash my ears out with soap, but one think I'd note is that I haven't heard the I word once, Israel. I feel like I heard it a bunch at the Democratic convention. It's an issue close to Lieberman's heart, all he said was that he and McCain "traveled the world" together. Didn't mention Israel. Which proves? One, very few Republican delegates are Jews; just look at the red state percentages of Jews, Alaska .5 percent, Indiana .3, Iowa .2. Two, it's not an issue for non-Jewish Americans, they don't really care. My friend Steve F. says that U.S. policy wouldn't change if there was no Israel lobby. I say, the Israel lobby is the only interest that really cares and is at the table. Three, Conventions are about voters, not donors. Big donors to the Republican Party get their Israel-reassurance in phone calls and emails.

Another question: Why did Lieberman do it? Pique; he's obviously still angry at the Lamont thing, two years ago. Ambition, Sec'y of State. And I bet he's for an undivided Jerusalem. Just guessing–he wants to move our embassy there.

  1. POLL: MORE AMERICANS ARE PRO-ISRAELI

NEW GALLUP SURVEY REVEALS ISRAEL IS ONE OF FIVE COUNTRIES AMERICANS FEEL MOST FAVORABLY ABOUT; PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY RANKS NEAR BOTTOM ALONG WITH IRAN, NORTH KOREA

THE NEW ISRAEL AND THE OLD
WHY GENTILE AMERICANS BACK THE JEWISH STATE

A Gallup poll in June 1948 showed that almost three times as many Americans "sympathized with the Jews" as "sympathized with the Arabs." That support was no flash in the pan. Widespread gentile support for Israel is one of the most potent political forces in U.S. foreign policy, and in the last 60 years, there has never been a Gallup poll showing more Americans sympathizing with the Arabs or the Palestinians than with the Israelis.

'A Gallup poll in June 1948 showed that almost three times as many Americans "sympathized with the Jews" as "sympathized with the Arabs." '

Only three times as many? Jeez, with Jews in the driver's seat (and owning the car) of most US media organisations, and the Palestinians owning and driving precisely none of them, the Lobby had better get cracking on that percentage.

Where did the five or six Americans who support the Palestinians get their news from Mafish? Dead-enders on blogs I suppose; blogs like this one which reports news not fit to print in the MSM (like the post about the IDF intimidating the family of the girl who shot the footage of an IDF soldier shooting an unarmed boy; or the one about how the IDF waited until a childrens's pool had been completed in Ramallah before they bombed the shit out of it – little things like that)

Nice to see you slumming here, and looking forward to more of your contributions.

  3. LOL! The jews werent in the driver's seat. In fact, the US had an advanced-weapons embargo against Israel until after the 1967 Six day war.

Americans like Israel. Americans don't like terrorists.

    Commentary: Israel of the Caucasus
By ARNAUD DE BORCHGRAVE (UPI Editor at Large)

WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (UPI) — Israel began selling arms to Georgia seven years ago. U.S. grants facilitated these purchases. From Israel came former minister and former Tel Aviv Mayor Roni Milo, representing Elbit Systems, and his brother Shlomo, former director general of Military Industries. Israeli UAV spy drones, made by Elbit Maarahot Systems, conducted recon flights over southern Russia, as well as into nearby Iran.

In a secret agreement between Israel and Georgia, two military airfields in southern Georgia had been earmarked for the use of Israeli fighter-bombers in the event of pre-emptive attacks against Iranian nuclear installations. This would sharply reduce the distance Israeli fighter-bombers would have to fly to hit targets in Iran. And to reach Georgian airstrips, the Israeli air force would fly over Turkey.

The attack ordered by Saakashvili against South Ossetia the night of Aug. 7 provided the Russians the pretext for Moscow to order Special Forces to raid these Israeli facilities where some Israeli drones were reported captured.

At a Moscow news conference, Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn, Russia's deputy chief of staff, said the extent of Israeli aid to Georgia included "eight types of military vehicles, explosives, landmines and special explosives for clearing minefields." Estimated numbers of Israeli trainers attached to the Georgian army range from 100 to 1,000.

  7. There's no reason Israel shouldn't support Western-oriented, a friendly democracy, a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the World Trade Organization, the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development; a country that wants to join NATO and, in the longer term, the European Union.
