That Was Fast (Palin Genuflects to AIPAC)

The great Jim Lobe is reporting that Sarah Palin went to AIPAC yesterday for a laying-on of hands, with Joe Lieberman holding her train. AIPAC–surprise–pronounced her a great friend of Israel. Lobe says she blew off an important reception with Phyllis Schlafly to do so. Ah, yes, now whose religion is more important in politics? Lobe makes the appropriate conclusion about the strength of the Israel lobby. I'd throw in that it's the No-see-um lobby. Lieberman says nothing about Israel in his speech– that issue most important to him– and David Gergen on CNN says righteously after the speech that Lieberman should not have spoken so fulsomely of Sarah Palin in the speech because he does not know her–Gergen who denied that the Israel lobby has any power in the executive branch during the Walt and Mearsheimer foodfight, he never saw the Israel lobby. Well Gergen is misinformed, Lieberman does know her, and why does he know her? Who has got our Middle East policy by the balls?

US Poll: Israel Alone Named 'Vital Friend'

But if it will make you feel better:

Biden’s son married into a Jewish family, but his keen interest in the region dates back to his first visit as a U.S. senator, not long before the 1973 Yom Kippur. He met Israel’s then-prime minister, Golda Meir.

He came away from that meeting understanding that “there is this inextricable tie between culture, religion, ethnicity that most people don’t fully understand—that is unique and so strong with Jews worldwide,” Biden said in an interview with Shalom TV last year, when he launched his own presidential bid. “When I was a young senator, I used to say, ‘If I were a Jew I’d be a Zionist.’ I am a Zionist. You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist.’”

  5. roGER says:

That's right Sarah, be a good girl and just part the cheeks gently and give the ass a really good hard full tongue kiss…

Yes I know it's an ugly stinking ass, but it's what you have to kiss to get elected.

You'll learn to love kissing that ass, Sarah, unlikely as it sounds now.

    You will, I promise…

    mafeesh, arabic for there isnt(close).

  7. media monitor says:

I notice Bloomberg News is pretty up-front about the the significance of this display of power, explicity mentioning the snubbed Christian Right. Kudos to them.

Palin, who has been criticized by Democrats for her lack of foreign policy experience, yesterday skipped a scheduled appearance with an anti-abortion group, meeting instead with leaders of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee at her Minneapolis hotel.

  9. David F. says:

For Jews to worship idols is bad enough, but to seduce (or force) Gentiles to avodah zarah…how bad is this going to get?

I am less softhearted towards Palestinians than some. I understand perfectly well that nation-building requires ethnic cleansing, and the Israelis were no worse than other nations, whose brutal elimination of ethnic and linguistic minorities has long been forgotten except to specialized historians.

However this conflation of the State of Israel with Judaism proper is an abominable heresy, and taints Judaism everywhere.

  10. dx says:

    From JTA

The Anti-Defamation League, which has been deeply critical of Jews for Jesus and was among the organizations calling for Democratic nominee Barack Obama to distance himself from his controversial pastor during the primaries, said it had no problem with Palin’s membership in a church that supported efforts to convert Jews.

The ADL’s national director, Abraham Foxman, told JTA that Protestant evangelizing to Jews was entirely different from Catholics praying for Jewish conversion, which the ADL has sharply criticized.

“They did not have the Inquisition. They did not go on a Crusade. They did not kill Jews for 2,000 years,” Foxman said. “They have a belief; they’re entitled to their belief.”

    ***

So how many more Iraq wars did Palin and McCain have to promise?

  11. Gene says:

Wow, is AIPAC a mafia. Its like they met in a dark room hidden from the media(MSNBC, CNN and Fox) and all our politicians have to kiss the Jewish Ring Finger. Sopranos anyone? Too funny if it weren't so sad.
