Israel Is ‘in Emanuel’s Blood’ (Oh God, When Will This End?)

This piece is in Haaretz says Obama is the "first Jewish president."

Alan Solow: "He has always had a deep understanding of Israel's
need for security. I went with him to Israel for a week in January
2006, and when he started the race for the presidency I had no doubt
I'd support him."

That was the famous test trip. When Obama fulfilled his promise to a group of well-connected Jews who took Obama out to Israel in '06. The group included an AIPAC board member, Lee Rosenberg. And Solow, a trial lawyer on the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, which is by and large ardently Zionist. No wonder Obama told Palestinian kids the policy would never be on their side. Solow also says he got to see Obama after the election night speech. Access.

Then there's this. Chicagoan Michael Bauer on Rahm Emanuel: "And Israel – it's in his blood. The fact that Joe
Biden, with a long record of supporting Israel, is Obama's vice
president-elect and Rahm Emanuel is his chief of staff – I'm not sure
what reassurance anyone needs that the president-elect when he is
president will remain a close ally of the State of Israel and the
people of Israel."

Dude, what about my people?

  1. Jack Ross says:

This is just the most farcical example yet to me – why does Israel need such constant effusion and expression, why is it so insecure? Tony Judt was spot on here when he called Israel "the country that won't grow up".

  2. Richard Witty says:

Why the continuous rehash of the same speculation?

Jimmy Carter expressed a different opinion, that he was CONFIDENT that Obama would address Israel/Palestine issues early, rather than late or never.

You gotta watch out for self-talk. Its what all movements do. Its a positive feedback loop, same as the real estate bubble.

Self-talk is NOT the same as truth.

  3. Richard Witty says:

I'm personally more concerned by events on the ground, specifically the restoration of active violence on the border of Gaza.

  4. Ricarda Wittone says:

Concerned about events on the ground? Watch watch this "remarkable film".

  5. Richard Witty says:

And what do you think my concern is, fool?

  6. LeaNder says:

Ricarda is only a troll. She will like being called a fool that gives her a jester's license.

  7. Eva Smagacz says:

I only managed to see first few minutes of the film. It made me sick. I got as far as giving Palestinians electric shocks at random for sport and amusement…..

  8. D. says:

Thanks for the Aftershock link, Ricarda. It reminds you how militarized Israeli society is.

(It's like a sanitized film version of the Checkpoint Syndrome book.)

  9. John Dickerson, Atlanta says:

Witty, when you watched the video, were you playing with you big Israeli weapon?
When you are awakened in the dead of night, what is it that you hear, Mr. Witty? Is it the silence of the lambs?

  10. stevieb says:

Your worried about violence on the Gaza border?

What about the strangulation of the Palestinians, who are being starved slowly to death in Gaza – as well as Israel conducting operations inside Gaza(targeted assassinations are not violations of the cease-fire apparently for Israel). The violence you see is a direct result of Israel's racist and arrogant policy towards Gaza, which allows it to kill Palestinians impudently, and then condemn the token retaliation. This is truly a supreme war crime, this continued torture of Gaza. A real blot on jewish histoy – and on the international community for allowing it to continue.

    You're a waste of air, Witty…
