Tony Blair just received the Dan Prize from Tel Aviv University, $1 million, for his work on the peace process, whatever that is, in Israel/Palestine. (Thanks to Eva Smagacz.)

Now there's a cruel joke ""his exceptional leadership and steadfast determination in helping to engineer agreements and forge lasting solutions to areas in conflict." He followed Bush into Iraq until he bled his own country and caused the death and destruction of most of Iraq. He stood by during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006 and kept repeating "Israel has the right to defend itself " even as the children of Qana were being bombed. He watched the destruction of Gaza and refused to talk to Hamas although it was his job to find a solution. Giving this pre-madona a prize for his "engineering of agreements and forging solutions to areas of conflict" is laughable and insulting to all Britons. This fool has been collecting money for sitting on his butt in England and watching football on TV. Name one good thing or effort he has "engineered" and he can keep his laureat to hang on his empty wall of accomplishements. What a dud.
Beyond the obvious 'payment for services' in the prize money, just what is the worth of a politically motivated honorarium to a thoroughly discredited politician in his own country? Nor is Blair much respected elsewhere either. At best he flutters around the edges of Obama's Middle East initiatives, with no substantive role. Methinks the Israelis have squandered riches and bought themselves another false bill of goods.
The Nobel peace prizes are equally cynical, and always have been, so this is not a uniquely zionist accomplishment.
Last year Tony Blair was given a cool million "Peace Prize" by Israelis. I wonder just how impartial that makes him…..
