Avishai warns that ‘terrible violence’ is coming

I heard a similar view from another friend, that East Jerusalem will be the tinder point for the third intifadah. Bernard Avishai is pushing the European Union resolution that recognizes East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state, and he wants Obama to begin a crusade against the colonies:

One can only hope the EU document is essentially adopted, or even that a close vote prompts the requisite attention in Jerusalem. Adopting the resolution might even be a trial balloon for the Obama administration to do what it should have done from the start, which is adopt the Clinton parameters as policy itself.

FOR WHILE THE Wall Street Journal publishes fatuous pieces about shopping in Nablus, the situation on the ground is deteriorating day by day. Anyone with a head and heart can sense a terrible violence coming.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand Israel deserves another intifadeh, but on the other hand, that’s actually what they want and have been actively trying to provoke, because it will “justify” further atrocities against Palestinians and re-establish Israel’s position as the “victim.”

The Palestinians are between a rock and a hard place. If they don’t resist, they will slowly be ethnically-cleansed out of Palestine altogether, but if they resist, they give Israel the excuse it wants to speed up the ethnic cleansing.

Violence is… coming? I think if you were a Palestinian in the occupied territories, you’d be questioning the assertion that violence wasn’t already here. That said, it’s about time Europe stepped up to take a role of leadership in international affairs. I think it’s been made painfully clear to them that they have to, unless they want NATO dragged into a third World War sparked by the US and/or Israel.
