A Christmas cheer photo from Mark Peterson. He tells me he just found it in his files; his employer didn’t want to use it at the time. Go figure. The guy on the left is photographer David Kennerly. As for the guy on the right– not sure what he’s drinking…

OMG! Yet another mess! I just finished cleaning my keyboard from the last time I hurled. Do they make disposable keyboards yet? I guess I need to keep a ‘barf bag’ handy.

The likes of Shrub is why I turned down OCS in the US Army when I was 18–3 of us were selected from our basic training class, and I alone refused; not a wise move, but he reminded me too much of the frat guys I hated in HS. (The US Army made sure I paid for my decision dearly).
Picked out of basic for OCS? At what point did they inform you? Can I ask what year this was, and were you ever sent to Ft Benning or did you refuse on the post?
That’s amazing, I’ve just never heard of anyone in your situation refusing–it must have been a huge story.
Plenty of people refuse OJ, please don’t act like your the only one of us that has ever been in the military.
At the time they told me I was the first recruit in the history of Ft Knox to refuse
an offer to go to OCS.
They informed me at the end of basic training at Ft Knox. It was in the Fall of 1960. Why do you ask? I signed up to go to Ft Belvoir for engineering training; they sent me to Ft Lenardwood to be a peon in the combat engineers. At the end of my enlistment,
they tried again; this time I was asked to re-up to be a warrant officer and fly helicopters. I refused. Naturally they didn’t tell me about the escalation going on then
already for Vietnam.
you were in a frat in high school?
Do yourself a favor and look up the word “fraternity” in a dictionary. And then have somebody read the alternate definitions to you.
No. I didn’t like the frat guys much. Were you? Why do you ask?
JB:
Let me get your version straight here:
Plenty of people get pulled out of basic for OCS and refuse? Can you name three?
Easily OJ, but its really none of your business unless those people wanted to volunteer themselves to your bogus inquisition.
Ah. I figured. Privacy issues.
How about recounting some of their reasons?
That slippery slippery Reply button! Always outfoxing OJ.
Oh Chaos! Stop showing off!
As for the guy on the right– not sure what he’s drinking…
. . . oh, that would be the neo-con Kool-Aid.
RE: “I know we’re disappointed in Obama.” – Weiss
ME: Sign the Petition – Investigate Rahm Emanuel
FDL ACTION CENTRAL – Sign our (FDL/Jane Hamsher) Petition to Attorney General Eric Holder:
We write to demand an immediate investigation into the activities of Rahm Emanuel from his time at Freddie Mac, and the potential coverup of criminal activity. Join us in calling for the Department of Justice to investigate White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s dealings at Freddie Mac and the subsequent stonewalling of an investigation.
» Sign the petition: Rahm should be investigated and resign. – link to action.firedoglake.com
I know we’re disappointed in Obama but…
Do not sign the firedpglake petition, please, as it is intended to start another Whitewater-type investigation to bring this Democratic president down so that we end up with another Bush-type neocon.
Phil would know all about the dangers of getting caught up in this type of sheer nonsense and right’wing ratf*ckery.
Any evidence for that, or is this just more of the usual Democratic nonsense by which anyone who is really angry at a Democrat must be working for the Republicans? You can argue against signing the petition without believing in that crap. I’ve seen this before–where someone on the far left was fervently denounced as a Bush supporter because he was also critical of the Democrats.
