I tell you, slowly but surely, we are defusing the third rail in American politics. NPR’s Don Gonyea this morning quoted John Mearsheimer on NPR, the cranial IV feed for the blue state elites. Gonyea probably got away with it because piece was on Obama at West Point, and Mearsheimer is West Point grad. Nuttin’ about the Israel lobby, of course. But this is important. Mearsheimer was formerly persona non grata in mainstream media.

Last night on the Ron Reagan show, there was discussion of the Iranian situation, and several callers made the point that Israel has nukes, so of course Iran needs them for self-defense, that Iran was complying with the NPT and Israel was not. Callers expressed concern about Israel attacking Iran. And Reagan actually refered to “the political climate in Washington” to explain why the US was not likely to confront Israel on this issue.
Unprecedented.
These types of comments have quadrupled on C-spans Washington Journal over the last few years. Times they are a changin. Kind of. Illegal settlements still expanding

And that is why NPR still doesn’t get a dime from me.
“defusing the third rail”? Sure, that’s a great way to describe it. You are removing the fuse which supplies electrical power to the third rail.

MY COMMENT: De-energizing and/or neutralizing might also work.
