One thing Marty Peretz isn’t is a menschkenner. That’s Yiddish for being a good judge of character. Wikipedia: "He strongly supported Senator Barack Obama in both his Democratic primary race and in the 2008 general election." Shouldn’t he have known something? Recent scrapings:
1. March 18 "Someone at breakfast this morning suggested to me that Obama is like Col. Lindbergh. See Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America. But, unlike Lindbergh, whose presidential ambitions collapsed, Obama’s succeded."
2. March 19 "This is a culture so unhinged by modernity that it clings to its crippled
civilization. And who will tell me that the civilization of the Arabs, the
civilization of Islam, is not crippled?"
3. March 19 "In fact, Obama seems to think that he is the superego of the conflict and that his function is to hand out dicta on how to end it. But he has no dicta for the Palestinians and plenty for the Israelis. The Jewish state has many conditions under which it would be prepared to give more rather than less. Alas, the president can?t bring himself to publicly acknowledge this. The fact is that he does not particularly like Israel."

MY COMMENT: That’s our Marty “Macho Man” Peretz! “He’s a special person in anybody’s land…Macho, macho man (yeah, yeah)” *
FROM JUAN COLE: “…Marty Peretz, who married into the Singer Sewing Machine fortune and then used his wife’s money to buy and ruin The New Republic, turning it into pro-Contra, pro-war rag, was annoyed to see me on television because of his vast fund of knowledge about Arabic hollow verbs…”

* P.S. My sincerest apologies to “The Village People” for bringing them into this. They deserve better! As to Randy Savage….
“The Jewish state has many conditions under which it would be prepared to give more rather than less.”
How many? Name one.
The Jewish state would be prepared to give more Palestinians to other nations.
They’re open to the possibility of maybe adhering to international laws, human rights and basic dignity. You know, in exchange for something, of course.
Re: “… Obama is like Col. Lindbergh. See Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America. But, unlike Lindbergh, whose presidential ambitions collapsed, Obama’s succeded.”
Imagine what the AIPAC American jews and Israelis would think of the actual feats, courage, intelligence, and character of Lindbergh–if he was an Israeli? Instead, he was only a non-jewish American, poor soul. Too bad he fit the stereotype of the Aryan, rather than the Zionist.
Instead, we have the Jew enhancer of the horror movie Hostel beating German conscripts to a pulp in the latest Hollywood pulp fiction to look up to. Aren’t we lucky?
Can it get any better for the goys? They get to watch pretty Eastern European (non-jewish) women
being used and tortured, and murdered as the ultimate sex object, and to boot, they get to see strapping nascent IDF heroes clubbing their inferiors by their hired proxies in Hollywood carving swastikas on the uber-unter mensch, carving on those
conscripted Germans of old, Germans, basically no different than GI Joe.
So, what Gentile can write a new novel rivaling Phil Roth’s? Any of Roth’s works?
Let’s see, shall we start with a young goy lad lusting after a J.A.P.? Shall we see a novel
expressing how AIPAC took over American culture? Shall we see yet another novel revealing in humorous fashion how Joe Lieberman and Cantor were rascist pricks? Right. That’s a sure ticket to literary stardom in the literate USA.
Obama’s problem is that he looks black and among American Jews (and Israeli Jews), blacks are looked down upon to the point of racism. “Hussein” doesn’t help either.
So now Obama “hates Israel”, but Bush senior apparently didn’t “hate Israel” when he suspended aid to Israel in 1991.
My analists tell me Obama being black is not his main problem. Also, as Colin Powell once so delicately put it, he’s not that black.
Avi, how do you explain this nugget:
In the 2008 presidential election, 78% of Jews voted for Barack Obama, who became the first African-American to be elected president.[17] Additionally, 83% of white Jews voted for Obama compared to just 34% of white Protestants and 47% of white Catholics, though 67% of those identifying with another religion and 71% identifying with no religion also voted Obama
How do you explain the fact that Israelis by and large refer to him as Kushi?
78% of Jews voted for Barack Obama
Historically, Jews have voted for the Democratic nominee.
You said Americans Jews, I asked about Americans Jews.
So Jews in 2008 by in large voted for a person they feel is inferior because of his race?
I think they didn’t have a choice. It was voting in a democrat or voting in a republican nut job. Which would you choose?
um, remember this is yonira
I would clearly vote for a democrat, but I still think its careless to say that many American Jews are racist. Don’t get me wrong, i’ve heard the word shvartze way too many times, but I know even more Jews who were passionate about the Obama campaign and worked their asses off to elect him, not to simply not elect McCain.
The fact that Obama’s in AIPAC’s back pocket, to the point where he appointed an IDF volunteer as his Chief of Staff, probably helps with American Jews who are not liberal.
I would agree, somewhat, in that what Avi says applies to Israelis, but not necessarily to American Jews. I think militantly Zionist Jews (in Israel as well as the US) are trying to sabotage Obama’s image among Jews worldwide, however, and they’re not above using his race against him.
I’m actually hoping that disgusts American Jews so much, they open their eyes about what Israelis are really about.
“‘Avi, how do you explain this nugget:”‘
How do you explain that Obama’s approval ratings are about 4% in Israel?
The existence and/or prevalence of racism amongst Israelitian /Newyorkarian Jews is one thing. Whether this is Obama’s main problem is another. It’s not because racist attitudes piggyback on the disapproval towards Obama’s attitudes that they make a big difference. Anyway, this article link to wire.antiwar.com
the earlier ‘ only 4% positive’ poll.
