‘We are all Palestinian’

Today the Day of Rage demonstrations are taking place in cities all over the world, demanding immediate sanctions on Israel. We’re expecting reports to start rolling in, here’s our first one.

Nineteen-year-old student and activist Barnaby Raine has been organizing a “Jewish Bloc against Zionism” in London. And his speech at today’s Day of Rage demonstration in London is a knock out. Excerpts:

I am proud to stand here today as a Jewish boy from North London in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

I’m not here today in spite of Jewish history. I’m here because of Jewish history. ..

I’m here today because my great grandparents knew what it meant to be excluded and to be the victims of racism. They knew what it was like to be booted out of their homes and turned into refugees…

[To BBC] Is that a conflict? When people flee for their lives to United Nations shelters, and then Israel attacks the United Nations shelters, is that a conflict? (No!). No no no BBC this is not a conflict, this is a massacre…

I am 19 years old. What future awaits the 19 year olds of Gaza?..

Let’s put sanctions on Israel until this barbarism ends.

So I just want to leave you with one important quote. In the early 20th century, people all over the world from all backgrounds who stood for the oppressed might have declared, I too am a Jew. When apartheid besmirched the earth people might have said I too am a black South African. Well today people from all backgrounds, from all walks of life, all over the world, come together and say in our thousands, in our millions, We are all Palestinian.

Annie, 10,000 in Dublin. Will try to get you photos same method as last time.

Now there is a glimmer of hope. We need more of that in this dark hour.

Thanks for that, Annie!

The demo in London was truly amazing;

I could only attend the first hour of the march; it was a huge success, as demonstrated by the images posted on the BBC website.

What the BBC report does not say – just how many ordinary people came along, those who were appealed and outraged by what they witnessed on TV and social media. I talked to those around me. Normally, people here don’t care that much about wars in faraway places… So, to me, it was really significant to see such a wide participation!

You have to get to the root cause of the Palestine conflict, the irrational violent hatred of Jews hence mosques and schools are primary targets:

“UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon said that one must seek the “root cause” of the Israel-Hamas conflict so as to enable us to resolve it. However politically incorrect it may be to say so, this culture of hatred – this genocidal anti-Semitism – is the root cause and has fueled the ongoing Hamas terrorist war of attrition…A crucial point oft ignored: Palestinian society in Gaza must be freed from the cynical and oppressive culture of hate and incitement. This not only constitutes a standing threat to Israel, but undermines the development of authentic Palestinian self-determination, as in the cruel deployment of Palestinian child labour in the terror tunnels. No peaceful solution will be possible if massive resources continue to be poured into state-controlled media, mosques, refugee camps, training camps, and educational systems that serve the sole purpose of demonizing Israel and the Jewish people, and inciting to war against them.”

Mosques destroyed amid renewed violence in Gaza

I was at the London demo, though I did not hear that particular speech – I did hear thanks being given for the Jewish people who support the Palestinian cause. The event was very well attended and gave me a glimmer of hope.
