      Let me respectfully and politely disagree with your most of your arguments.

      Point 1: Do you realize that you are doing exactly what you said Taxi should not be doing which is to define who is a real Jew? In that case, we can also debate if there is such thing as a distinct Palestinian identity too. DO you see where that leads? Do I have the right to pontificate on that point? No.

      Point 2: Unless you have conducted genetic testing on each Jewish family, you can't say these Jews are the real ones, these are the aliens. You want to conquer and divide without knowing much about how Jews view themselves, their relationship to Am Israel , and to each other. If you are familiar with Jewish history you would know that different communities were in contact with each other throughout the ages. What compelled for instance French Jews to establish the Alliance schools for Jews in Muslim countries, and in 1879 yet? Think about that for a moment. They did it because they had the sense of being part of the same people despite huge cultural differences.

      Point 3: If you buy into Sand's theories, then Oriental Jews are not genuine either because according to him most are converts from Berber tribes.
      So if you believe in Khazaria , you must also believe in the Kaheena.

      Point 4: Real vs fake jews is ultimately a pointless discussion. How long do you stay an "alien"? By your rationale, Americans will then be entitled to deport most hispanics for instance as they parachuted themselves and took jobs from genuine Americans cause nobody asked them to come! France can send back all her North Africans cause they commit crimes and Britain all its South Asians because of honor killings, Germany all its turks, etc.

      Point 5: As a Sephardic Jew, I don't self identify as an arab jew as you call it----not that there is anything wrong with it you understand, but FYI some communities do consider that a slur, just sayin...---- but again you don't get to decide how people self identify. You decide for yourself and I decide for myself. More than one million Israelis under the age of 40 are the offspring of intermarriage between different groups. Therefore your divide and conquer is a moot point at this stage in the game. They have entertwined their destinies.

      Point 6: Most Jews now live in the West and in Israel. This has allowed for a globalized Jewish peoplehood and the process of homogenization has begun. A new Jewish people is literally being created. I find that exciting. We enrich each other. The younger generations are being raised together with the same values and in the same cultures. 60 years ago, it was a different story. Hey, that's Sand's conclusion too. There is an Israeli people and also a disporic Jewish people. No need to invent anything now!!!

      Point 6: Psst.... Let me let you in on a little secret. Oriental Jews are the most rabid zionists cause they are traditionalists and believe literally in messianic Zionism as in Next Year in Jerusalem! You better off with Ashkenazim who are more progressive in general =:)

      No numbskull, I was thinking about Druze people who serve in the IDF. Jews from Arab lands speak local Judeo-Arabic dialects that are totally different from Palestinian Arabic. Heck a Muslim Tunisian can hardly understand a Muslim Lebanese unless they have both been schooled in Standard Modern Arabic. Let's face it you, have no idea of what you are talking about. Stick to what you do best, insulting people and inventing tall tales.

You hate an entire country and its people because of something that you supposedly witnessed as a 5 year old ? I don't think they were too many tourists in 1967 in Jerusalem. Your story does not add up.
      The only people of army age who speak yiddish in Israel are the Ultra Orthodox and they don't serve in the IDF. And non Haredi Yiddish speakers are probably in their 90's. Besides, tons of people speak Arabic in the IDF and those soldiers are likely to be posted in border areas or in East Jerusalem. This BS story about Yiddish is to prove your Kazhar theory and nothing else. You think Palestinians are pure? Don't you know that the Ottomans forcibly moved people around when they rebelled against their rule. Never mind all the invaders that come and went and mingled with the local population. Do you know that many Palestinians are light skinned , lighter even than some Ashkenazim? The Middle East is a big genetic melting pot. Khazar, Shmazar! What does that even mean? What a ridiculous thing to call somebody you don't agree with. Unix could Persian for all you know. And by the way I am Sephardic and I don't consider myself a "purer" Jew than an Ashkenazi Jew. A jew is somebody who wants to define himself/herself as such. It is not up to you to decide who can belong or not to the tribe.

As I was reading, I was wondering how you were going to weave Israel into you little dissertation. Sure enough, you did not diasppoint. And here I was thinking that we were going to get something on Afghanistan but no, it was just a pretext for the same old crap. Pretty weak argument by the way. Nations are not people. The US "respected" the Soviet Union during the Cold War precisely because they feared them.

      Phil, I don't understand why American publications have to write about Israel's domestic issues. This is an internal matter. You want Israel to go away and leave American Jews alone, no? Why then do you encourage more exposure of Israel in the MSM. Do you want ordinary people to turn againt Israel? Beware of the unintended consequences of your attitude.
      After all, Israel is a foreign country and Americans are parochial. I hardly read about any other country in the world in the American papers , except for Israel.
      And you want more? You are doing more to promote this" special relationship" than the most dedicated zionist. How come I don't read anything on Mondoweiss about the war of ideas in other Middle Eastern countries? It is the rationale for your blog, so let's hear about what is going on in the surrounding countries, or is that not sexy enough?

      Re your post on Israel haters.

      You don't want to waste your energies debating most posters here. Why bother? a few write thoughful posts even if from an anti-zionist POV and that's OK with me. I respect where they are coming from. We all know every society has its flaws and I have no problem with people criticizing current or past Israeli policies. However others are bullies and boors who have made up their minds long time ago. Nothing you will write is going to change that. Some posters are truly malevolent characters. Those are the David Dukes types hiding behind antizionism. Their hatred corrodes their soul. And hopefully the internet gives them an outlet for their rage. As long it is all talk......and no action, let them vent. Read some previous entries from a few months ago and you will know who you should ignore and who you can engage. Many posters here have honed their talking points over many years at anti-zionists blogs and they are constantly renewing them. They are dissemblers and shallow thinkers who have all sorts of links and quotes at their fingertips and yet have no clue about the middle east and its realities. They are the true hasbarists. I have heard it all at Comment is Free and other blogs. So it does not bother me as long as they don't come after me!
      Then there are the human rights and justice mafia. And you know how mafiosis operate. They gang up on people and drive them away. Post your opinion on whatever Phil writes and leave it at that. That 's what Julian does. Better yet, have fun with the place and don't get upset. For many here, Israelis and "Zionists" are grotesque cartoonish figures with mythical abilities for evil.       Hello? I know exactly who Daniel Bernard is /was and the context of that remark. I am just as obssessed as you about the I/P situation ( Except I have no idea why you are but that's another story). I remember the shitstorm EVERYWHERE. That's why he was reassigned to Algeria, not exactly a smelling like roses country. That 's 8 years ago though. Cliff was probably 12 years old!       Not just haters. More than that, but only their shrinks know for sure. For instance, this guy Parker always calls Israel a shitty little country. Why would anyone spend so much time thinking , discussing, writing and posting about something shitty? Anal fixation? Freud, help me out here. Doesn't he run the risk of smelling like poo after so much vicarious contact with that shitty little LEVANTINE country?
      I think many countries are in the crapper and consquently I don't think, don't talk, and don't care about them. He lives in the Phillipines too. He is already so close to so much crap. He does not need to waste a minute of his life dealing with more Israeli fecal matter.

      You know very well that it is all just grand gesture politics. Losing a few pensions shares won't hurt the big companies and won't stop them either from doing business with Israel, China , Iran or whoever they want. We are in a globalised world, these companies are multinationals, and money trumps ethics. Pensions funds will continue to invest in companies that make money.
      This is just another PR move from the anti Israel lobby to try to make the BDS movement sound more important than it really is. Every consumer boycott has failed. They have been trying very hard but have scored few real victories. The latest Code Pink initiative in Montreal to stop some stores from selling AHAVA products was an unmitigated disaster. Hundreds answered the call from the "Buycott" movement to hit the stores and every beauty product was sold out. Tickets for Israeli films were sold out at the TIFF. The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit was sold out. Every move is countered. Hey, everything is fair in love and war, so these Jewish groups are doing what they have to do!
      I have never bought Israeli products before, now I make a point of buying BAMBA and distributing it to friends family and coworkers. I introduced a few people to the delight of Israeli peanut snacks and created more consumers for the entity. Yeah! This call for divestment is all sound and fury and won't amount to a hill of beans at the end of the day. The university does not have to listen to the students.
      A union here in Toronto passed a boycott resolution agaisnt Israel. It means fuck all in practical terms cause they can't stop workers from fraternizing with Israelis. All it did was generate a lot of ink in the press and furious letters to the editors. What does a union in Canada have to do with Israel? Nothing. That union operates in my work place and the workers never discussed, cared about, or had any input in that decision. It was just the delegates voting for what the big union boss wanted. He is an ex. SWP attuned to British stalinist politics and trying to import diviseness into Canada. Just think how many trees had to die for his hubris. Union workers care only about benefits and working conditions. Heck , most of them are even anti union philosphically but as long as they get the cushy jobs they are all for it.
      These initiatives are only successful in so far as they create animosity and bad feelings among different groups here. They have ZERO impact on Israel.

      In the context of French society, these philosophers freaked out because Ramadan outed them as being Jewish which is really a no no in a society that worships its secular nature. " Communautaire" or tribal is an insult to French intellectuals and a public intellectual like Ramadan is not supposed to stoop to that. He behaved like an American, like a Pat Buchanan! This reflects the growing influence of Islam in France which is bringing ideas from the Arab and Muslim worlds to the public sphere.
      I guess it is a bad development if you are a French Jew!
      They also freaked out because Ramadan is saying in effect that Jewish journalists and thinkers should keep their nose out of the Middle East and South Asia because they are tainted by their Jewishness and can only be trusted if they have impeccable anti-zionists credentials. I guess you would approve, Phil.
      Bernard Kouchner is only part Jewish and has been critical of Israel. BHL is also against the occupation, so it is not like they are Israel firsters.
