the battle for the soul of Israel is taking place on Israeli TV, not ours

Real journalism. A stunning report from Channel 2 in Israel on a confrontation between Peace Now activists and settlers in the West Bank. The activists are traveling into the West Bank to check the status of the "freeze" on settlements. There ain't no freeze. This should be on American television.  Why isn't it?
The crux of the report comes when the activists, Hagit Ofran and Idan Goldberger of Peace Now, are counting houses in the Dolev settlement and are confronted by settlers who ask why they're taking notes. One confrontation is violent; the settler destroys a camera. Another settler says that by giving this information to the world, Goldberger is trying to undermine the state of Israel, and says he is just like the Polish judenrate who collaborated with the Nazis.
At this point we learn that Goldberger was shot by a Palestinian sniper while serving the occupation as a soldier 7 years ago. He had to have his jaw reconstructed and undergo extensive rehabilitation. Goldberger says Israel must undergo a longer rehabilitation than what he experienced, and he wants to help his society through it. Beautiful man.
Ofran, whose job it is to monitor settlements, tells me that Channel 2 cut "all of the 'Substance', our real message of why we do it, in order not to lose the two states solution." While Goldberger says in the video that he is trying to save Israel.
(Myself, I don't know. I think I want a different dream for these good people, a different Israel.)
There's a conversation about this on the Americans for Peace Now site.
