You know, I just watched the video again and something struck me. I remember when I first became aware of struggles and resistance movements around the world. I remember seeing photos of great leaders like A.J. Heschel walking arm and arm with black leaders in the American south and feeling such great respect and admiration for those Jews that understood what was going on. I was profoundly influenced by those people.
Perhaps I am bit jaded now after a few years of attending and writing about these demonstrations but seeing Jonathan Pollak and Shai (the second guy arrested) on the ground with those horrible handcuffs being placed on them while some solider has a knee on their back, I am struck with similar feelings of respect and admiration. We are few, the Israeli Jews that join Palestinians in nonviolent resistance, but I am confident that some time soon there will be more people like I once was who look at these videos, writings and photos and feel great admiration. Sometimes I have moments of clarity in this struggle when I can stand back and see the amazing movement of civil society that is happening in the West Bank away from all of the political meandering and conflict.
