“Boost aliyah [Jewish emigration to Israel] to balance Arab growth,” says Avraham Duvdevani of the World Zionist Organization in a British Jewish publication:
Of the average 19, 000 annual olim to Israel in recent years, 9,000 have come from the former Soviet Union and 2,000 from Ethiopia.
“To have less than 10,000 a year from the Western world is a terrible situation,” he said. “It puts Israel in danger.
“Every year the [population] gap between the Arab citizens of Israel and the Jewish citizens of Israel is closing by 60,000 a year. So we need 60,000 Jews a year to come to freeze the gap between us and the Arabs.”
Note that in Bernard Avishai’s important new piece on a “confederative” solution to the crisis, in Harper’s, he writes that maybe if we could get peace the smart Israelis who have left Israel, as many as 1 million, will start coming back. How do you think young American Jews feel about this crisis to Israel’s future? I wonder if they care at all. Certainly they have no desire to move there.
Interesting that the XSU isn’t considered part of the “Western world.” Which is usually a synonym for “white people.”

Well, my new neighbors (here in Boston) are “smart Israeli’s” – very nice people as well. From Rehavia, but don’t have any plans of moving back….so, it looks like this racist duvdevani will have to look for some other recruits…
It doesn’t ‘contain’ racist overtones, it is out and out racist. White Western Jews are the real thing for this guy, the others just bolster the demographic. And it is doubly racist to talk of Israeli citizens who aren’t Jewish as needing to be outnumbered. The whole attitude is xenophobic, racist and undemocratic. What’s new in zionism?
Well that’s it. The guy has convinced me to go to Israel. But only so I can speed up the process by having lots and lots of half-Arab babies. I’ll be an Arab baby-making oven. I’ll try to Octomom it to the extreme.
