86 Republicans to Obama: ‘You have already waited too long’ on Iran

I blame the Democrats for our saber-rattling against Iran. Well, here is a letter to Obama said to bear the signatures of 86 Republican congresspeople telling Obama to do everything Israel wants. I wonder who wrote this– maybe the Republican Jewish Coalition? And I wonder how much of Obama’s time this issue now takes up, when he could be fixing social security.

At Peace Now. Excerpts:

we call upon you to unequivocally support Israel in this time of great upheaval and uncertainty…

Our relationship [with Israel] has taken a particularly discouraging turn with respect to the starkly different views of Iran held by Israel and your Administration….

Although your Administration has stated that “all options are on the table,” you have offered little evidence to back up this statement….

We have already waited too long, Mr. President. Now is not the time for platitudes regarding one of the greatest threats Israel has ever faced…

We cannot stress strongly enough the need to repair broken relations with Israeli leaders…

“We cannot stress strongly enough the need to repair broken relations with Israeli leaders”
————————

Whatever happened to “American Exceptionalism”? Whatever happened to “Suck.On.This.”? These morons sound like teeny-boppers who didn’t get invited to the “cool” post prom party, with Israel playing the role of the popular jock. “OMG, Israel will be there, I have to get to that party” — This is hilarious.

It’s not as if their lives, or those of ordinary Americans, depended so urgently on genuflecting to Israel and fulfilling its every demand. Just their campaign coffers.

It seems obvious that this is an AIPAC “asked” policy statement submittal. If these Congresspeople can not discern any difference in the current full-court lobbying effort by AIPAC and the same hysteria that preceded our disaster of the century invasion of sovereign Iraq then it reflects poorly on their judgement and historical memory. Israel is determined to have the U.S, to engage in another international crime where our resources both human and material will be used.

Disgusting.

…regarding one of the greatest threats Israel has ever faced…

Oh, for God’s sake…and humanity’s…someone with an influential platform call out this bold-faced, and dangerous, lie.

The first paragraph of the letter is wildly inaccurate:

Ongoing nuclear advances and developments in Iran pose a growing serious threat to the existence of the state of Israel, our most critical ally.

The final paragraph reminds me of nothing so much as Kaiser Wilhelm II’s blank check to Austria-Hungary after the assassination in Sarajevo:

We respectfully request that you and your Administration articulate unwavering support for Israel. We cannot stress strongly enough the need to repair broken relations with Israeli leaders and to make our offer of support and assistance to Israel crystal clear if Israel finds it necessary to take action against Iran, in lieu of your reticence to do so. We cannot abandon our most trusted ally during one of its most trying times in history.

At least Kaiser Wilhelm and Austria had the plausible pretext of responding to a terrorist assassination.
