“Honestly no one would ever have expected Wasserman Schultz, an influential congresswoman who is often flamboyantly pro-Israel, to be AWOL when AIPAC wanted something done.”
On a positive side, nice Jewish girl and flamboyantly pro-Israel. On a negative side, may refuse to do something that AIPAC wants done. Can AIPAC trust humans ever again? From now on, all the political support and donations should be channelled to solely to robots. But who will be checking robots? Asimov Society?

“Sources inside Wasserman Schultz’s heavily Jewish South Florida community say that the lawmaker’s opposition to strengthened sanctions has become a “problematic position” for her constituents.
What a giveaway that is. The same old ‘unidentified sources’ make claims about her constituents which they can’t possibly know. If they are at all like the majority view in the US then they will be heavily in favour of no more wars, and behind Obama. But the ‘Jewish community’ (transl. a small section of loudmouth agitators for Israel, who are not the whole Jewish community by any means) are working up their usual high-pitched outrage that she is not doing their bidding and following their instructions. Maybe she is seeing the writing on the wall, and taking account of all of her constituents, not just the bully little minority who think they own her.

After cursory reading, it seems that human conspiracy in the House is quite a bit wider. First of all, Debbie by herself is not a powerful figure in the House but she is the Chair of DNC. So it was not her personally who scuttled the House version of the bill circulated by Kirk, Menendez and Schumer, but Sten Hoyer, hitherto co-sponsor, House minority whip. Adam Kredo thinks that Debbie was the culprit, but as the leader of DNC is she is basically a nominee of the sitting Democratic president and not an architect of a policy.
Full disclosure: on “lesser evil” theory I gave some small about to DNC, so I am pestered by e-mails from Debbie’s DNC office.
However, the rot in the house (or rust, if it involves robots as well) is wider. After all, Democrats are in minority. It seems that GOP faction that oppose the leadership on authorization of an attack on Syria did not fade away, and one of the geo-political imperatives for a deal with Iran is stronger then ever: the need to stop al-Qaeda from taking over Syria and a large part of Iraq. Plus such picayune considerations that may distract many humans that a war with Iran could wreck world economy while the final deal could provide quite a bit of stimulus.
If it is true that this idea is decisively scuttled in the House, it may explain why it gets so much traction in the Senate, in spite of its profound idiocy — this posturing is risk free.
