U.N. to Consider Israeli Nukes

by Philip Weiss on September 30, 2008 · 3 comments

The UN's nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, begins meeting in Vienna with the focus on Iran. But it has also put Israeli nukes on the agenda, at the request of Israel's Arab neighbors. You see: Israel is not the only country that feels threatened in the Middle East. The US opposed the move but folded. As the US is also reported to have stymied Israel's plans to attack Iran. And then there's House 362, calling for belligerent moves against Iran, which AIPAC backed but the House leadership shelved, at the urging of the National Iranian American Council. Are we all growing up?

It's about time! Maybe some of the monied backers of Israel are having a rough time financially and fall limp without financial clout? That's probably just a bad guess on my part, but it seems more likely than congress or the UN changing course.

The bigger question is whether we get to an Obama presidency without war with Iran.

They can address it but nothing significant will happen. We know they have nukes, they know they have nukes, the Arabs and the Persians know they have nukes, the whole freaking world knows they have nukes; it's too late to mitigate over it. That did nothing for India and Pakistan. It is slipping on North Korea. Israel will be untouchable.
