Josh Micah Marshall has a great post on Khalidi. Holding nothing back, not mincing words. Calling it McCarthyism and racism. Dude you make me finally proud to be an American. This is the angry tone I've been waiting for. Marshall channels Joseph B. Welch in the great Army-McCarthy hearings my mother made me watch.
There's a John Judis New Republic video at the bottom of Marshall's post. B+. Judis wears a Pendleton shirt and says that the Khalidi smear is "over the bounds," and likens it to McCarthyism. He also praises Khalidi, but faintly. I bet he's worried about what Marty Peretz will say. For instance, he starts off by talking about all the people who would disagree with Khalidi's views. Though: "I happen to have read two of his books and think very well of him." And Khalidi's for a two-state solution, and his views aren't different from a lot of leftwing Israelis. As if we dignify our discourse by relying on Israel's standards. "There's nothing that would qualify him to be smeared as a neo-Nazi," Judis says ringingly.
I don't know. Why can't you just give an Arab a big old French kiss some time?
P.S. Judis is a great man. A couple years ago he broke a seal in my own thinking when he said Of course the Jewish leadership demands "dual loyalty" of American Jews. This piece is still not up on the New Republic site. Essentially censored; though they keep saying they're working out the kinks. You can read it on the Carnegie site.
And yes, I got Josh's name wrong when I first posted this. Apologies to all and sundry..

John Judis looks a little bit like Larry Craig.
I meant Larry David!
If true, then they're taking their pound of flesh–
Obama May Name Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff
Phil,
YOUR "Rashid Khalidi fiasco" is your stated hope that Jews won't vote for Obama.
Lets presume that you have to be at least 10yrs to watch any congressional hearings without tearing your hair out. The army-Mc
Carthy hearings were 54 years ago. I've seen Phil Weiss. He isn't 64 yrs old. Hence, he is even more full of shit about this then ususal.
But I digress. Ok, fine, Khalidi, and Ayers by the way, who was also at the dinner with his cunt wife, are Gods gift to humanity. Men among men, great. Well, then RELEASE THE FUCKING TAPE. Let the American people judge for themselves.
Misogyny and racism, both utterly offensive.
God forbid our 40-year foreign policy and foreign aid policy be an issue in our presidential campaigns.
Sword,
Your again way over the edge.
People are free to think, to associate, and press are RESPONSIBLE to keep their agreements with sources.
That Phil suggested otherwise, agreeing with you, is also a BAD SIGN.
Richard, does the fourth estate ever have a duty to release information to the public though this would in some way dishonor
contract with the source? How about even an edited version of the audio transcript?
PS:
McCain:
“I Guarantee you, if there was a tape with me and Sarah Palin and some Neo-Nazi or one of those you think that tape would be made public ?”
So let me get this straight, criticizing some of Israel’s actions or having differing views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict than the acceptable American-Israeli view is now equatable with neo-Nazism !!!
Well, we wouldn't know what the dinner was like would we Anon. Because the LA Times is stone walling on releasing the tape. If there is nothing to the story why not release it. Or if there really was a confidential source why not release a transcript. After all, Khalidi and Ayers are reasonable moderate guys, right.
Mr. Weiss: Was the "finally proud to be an American" a snarky channeling of Mrs. Obama?
Oh and SOG? Stay classy, dude, stay classy.
If the source had stipulations as to its use, the publication cannot release it without that person's permission.
Who would EVER talk to them again?
Witty, how about a tape regarding plans A, B, & C to exterminate Israel?
PS:
As Malcolm X once said, "You don't stick a knife in a man's back nine inches, and then pull it out six inches, and say you're making progress." Witty's the 6 inch, SOG's the nine inch. The man referred to is Uncle Sam.
If there is nothing to the story why not release it.
Maybe for the sheer rumor mill. Maybe the tape itself would be quite disappointing? Maybe it's precisely what the use of neo-Nazi suggests: the circle of taboo around the question has closed in even more. Due to an awareness that the position is under assault.
One thing is obvious. They got much airtime. Now it would be interesting to test, what sticked in the minds of the average American Jo or Joe.
Considering this: Marshall channels Joseph B. Welch in the great Army-McCarthy hearings my mother made me watch.
Don't you think there are ample records. Were these matters televised. So what about tapings, recordings. Or documentaries generally.
Number One rule of any tribal political group, recent illustration:
Mrs Obama made a blistering call to African Press International the other day when she felt their coverage was not favorable enough to her husband. Gateway Pundit reports on the exchange:
….Mrs Obama said she decided to call API because of what she termed, API’s help to spread rumours created by American bloggers and other racist media outlets in their efforts to damage a black man’s name, saying she hopes African Media was mature enough to be in the front to give unwavering support to her husband, a man Africans should identify themselves with.
When API told her that our online news media was only relaying what the American Bloggers and other media outlets had discovered through their investigations, Mrs Obama was angered and she came out loud with the following: “African Press International is supposed to support Africans and African-American view,” and she went to state that, “it is strange that API has chosen to support the racists against my husband.
She goes further; when the API asks her about her husband's involvement with, and support of, the leader of a bloody pro-Muslim coup in Kenya, she responded thusly:
…When API asked Mrs Obama to comment on why Dr Corsi was arrested by the Kenyan government and whether she thought Kenya’s Prime Minister Mr Raila Odinga was involved in Dr Corsi’s arrest, she got irritated and and simply told API not to dig that which will support evil people who are out to stop her husband from getting the presidency.
Nice! So what we get here are two similar thoughts from Michelle Obama:
- anyone who opposes Barack Obama's bid for the presidency, or even writes about about him in a way that might be less than glowingly positive, is racist – even if they are African.
- anyone who investigates a story that might cast a negative light
Rumormill: Michael Goldfarb.
No need to name, names. It suffices to vaguely allude and grin broadly. Pied pipers, the "rats" will follow.
This is so sick, I want to puke. As it is deeply disturbing, as Cecilie writes, that "Khalidi's anti-Semitism" isn't even questioned.
I have to admit, that the first time I saw Khalidi in a discussion, I was so impressed, I immediately contacted him and read one of his books. It goes without saying. He is an amazing person, who doesn't deserve this witch hunt.
I'm with the Phil, let Obama lose the ballyhooed Jewish (reactionary nationalist) vote, and let the chips fall where they may. If they're still counting all the votes in the U.S. (are they?), he'll win.
That's the votes. As for Jewish money, well, it appears Obama won't really be short for cash on this campaign. (2012, that's another story.)
The reason that good cop zionists like Witty want the Khalidi affair to blow over is that the bad cops are clumsy and are revealing their hand–their real priorities–to the American people in a decidedly nonkosher way.
Zionism's propaganda coup was always how it got in to the American mindset largely unnoticed and uncommented.
(Yikes, I apologize for mixing metaphors a little, but that is how I was trained, at the Tom Friedman School of Coherent Arguments and Fact-Based Propaganda.)
The folks at the LA Times will never release a tape showing normal educated people discussing Israel frankly. The owners of our media are committed to the proposition that such a discussion is impossible. It's not the outlandishness of the event that they are trying to hide, but its banality.
Unless you believe in something called "the Jewish vote" (all 1-1/2% of it), this episode has nothing to do with the presidential election, on which voters have already made up their minds. It's just one more front in the Islamophobia campaign that's paving the way for More Wars for Israel.
He could be for a one-state solution and not qualify as a neo-nazi either.
