PCHR says misfired rocket killed girl in Gaza

The other day we did a post on the violent death of a two-year-old girl in Gaza, Hadeel Haddad, which sources attributed to an Israeli air attack— though our postscript mentioned that the official story was in doubt. Well, now the Palestinian Center for Human Rights has investigated and ascribed the child’s death to Palestinian rocket fire. Excerpt:

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) is deeply concerned about the killing of Hadeel Haddad, and the wounding of five others, as 5 home-made rockets have landed on 4 houses and an empty area of land in several parts of the Gaza Strip in the past few days. PCHR calls upon the government in Gaza to seriously investigate these incidents, and to take necessary measures to ensure the protection of civilian life and the safety of their property.

According to investigations conducted by PCHR and testimonyfrom eyewitnesses, at approximately 07:30 on Tuesday, 19 June 2012, Hadeel Ahmed Sa’eed al-Haddad (1.5) was struck in the head by shrapnel while she was standing in the entrance of the house of her grandfather, Sa’eed Mohammed al-Haddad, in al-Zaytoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City, when a home-made rocket landed on their house.

i am unable to open pchr’s website. is anyone else having that problem?

It works with Mozzila on my PC

Thanks Phil, and PCHR. Whole-truth-telling is a difficult, largely thankless, but nonetheless critical task. It reminds us who is worthy of belief and/or trust.

This would be the one you were excoriating Israel for and saying what monsters the Israelis were for killing the girl, and now have almost nothing negative to say about the actual killers?

One reason why peace may never happen here is because people get so locked into claiming a pure story (human history provides none) that they defend, deflect and contextualize the worst of those who are “on the same side.”

What you say is true generally, Woody (I don’t know Fred an cannot say about him) but in this case the post was offered as more proof of Israel’s barbarity and after more info came comments of disbelief trying to tweak something that did not fit into one type of anti-zionist narrative. And then finally the -Israel is still guilty anyway- addendum which is the same.

Meanwhile this innocent girl is still dead.
