The cleanup, was ordered by Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat as the first step in his plans to “end the refugee lie” and shut down UNRWA operations in Jerusalem completely.

The Palestinian-American writer Susan Abulhawa was detained at Ben Gurion airport Thursday morning as she entered Israel en route to a literary festival in Palestine. Israeli authorities sought to deport her on the grounds that she did not have a visa. She has appealed the deportation and is in a detention center, according to a friend who has spoken with Abulhawa’s lawyer.
Palestinian poet Dareen Tatour was released from an Israeli prison nearly six weeks ago, yet can’t keep prison and the prisoners off her mind. One woman in HaSharon prison, Yasmin, told Dareen of women with “severe yellowness and paleness of the face, obvious darkness under the eyes, heavy hair loss; some prisoners had rash on their hands as a result of humidity and lack of sunlight.”
