As we approach the end of the year, even in the face of so much suffering, I believe we will look back on 2021 as a significant year for Palestinian human rights making incredible progress despite unrelenting attacks. The flashpoints of change were all years in the making and Mondoweiss has covered them from the beginning for you by providing a megaphone for Palestinians and their allies. Please help us continue this important work by making a donation today that will be matched dollar for dollar.
Israel’s declaration of six leading Palestinian human rights and civil society groups as “terrorist” organizations continues to have reverberations in Washington. Rep. Betty McCollum has introduced a resolution calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to condemn Israel’s announcement, and specifically called for the Biden administration to “publicly condemn this authoritarian and antidemocratic act of repression by the Government of Israel against prominent Palestinian civil society organizations.”
During its attack on Gaza in May, Israel destroyed the offices of APA Images, the photo agency that Mondoweiss relies on to give you the news from Palestine. Today, we are proud to announce that we are joining with our friends at The Electronic Intifada and the Middle East Children’s Alliance to raise funds to replace APA’s destroyed equipment, and promote journalism in Gaza.
Mondoweiss is one of the few news organizations that covers the struggle for Palestinian rights in a U.S. context, and this has been a challenging year financially. Fortunately, during the current spring fundraising drive many of you have stepped forward to help us meet a $30,000 challenge. Inspired by your generous support, a Mondoweiss supporter has sent us a “flash match” challenge: If we can raise another $5,000 by this weekend, this friend will double it. This is a great time to leverage your gift so that it goes three times as far.
Our top 10 stories in 2020 focused on the stores that shook the world — COVID-19, Black Lives Matter protests, and Trump’s “Deal Of The Century.” And there was also Seth Rogen.
Phil Weiss talks to Palestinian novelist Susan Abulhawa about her latest book, AGAINST THE LOVELESS WORLD. Adam Horowitz talks to organizers of the Palestine Writes Literature Festival.
Day in and day out, Mondoweiss brings you news of Palestinians’ struggles for human rights which is usually ignored by corporate media. That’s why it’s crucial that the information we publish is freely available to everyone, without subscriptions or paywalls. But we can only do this with your support. Today is the last day of our fall campaign. If you haven’t already done so, could you make a monthly gift today?
Mondoweiss community, we have some bittersweet organizational news to share — Tova Perlmutter, our wonderful Executive Director, will be moving on later this spring. Tova has been central in our development over the past five years, helping to move Mondoweiss from a fledgling news operation of four staff people into a mature, stable organization with a core staff of ten. As we prepare for her exit at the end of June we are launching a search for a Director of Development to continue our impressive growth.
Mondoweiss is hiring an Individual Giving Manager. Inspired to build relationships with donors, the Individual Giving Manager will help increase Mondoweiss’s capacity to inform the public about human rights in Palestine. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis starting February 21; please apply as soon as possible.
