Before sunrise 17-year old Mohammed Hani al-Kasbah went to morning prayers at a mosque one block from his house in Qalandia refugee camp in Jerusalem, which is separated from the rest of the city by Israel’s security barrier. By afternoon his remains were carried into the same building for a funeral after he was shot and killed by Israeli forces. Two older brothers were also killed by Israeli forces 14 years ago.

Israeli forces used tasers on passengers aboard the Marianne, an aid ship bound for Gaza that was seized in international waters. An Israeli television reporter has released extended video of the seizure.

Early Monday three Israeli naval ships seized a vessel bound for Gaza carrying activists and humanitarian aid while still in international waters, said activists. The Freedom Flotilla III, headed by the Swedish ship the Marianne of Gothenburg, was attempting to break the eight-year siege on the Gaza Strip. The boat and its 18 passengers were being towed to Ashdod, where it was expected that the activists would be deported.

Palestinian leaders seek to charge Israel with the crime of “Apartheid,” and 22 other charges including seven war crimes, according to Shawan Jabarin, the director of the Palestinian human rights group Al Haq. The thick set documents were ceremoniously handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC) today at headquarters in The Hague, yet yesterday morning Jabarin was given exclusive access to the report in Ramallah.

The 51-day summer war between Hamas and Israel was not only “heartbreaking,” but rampant with “possible war crimes” according to a much anticipated United Nations report published Monday. Investigators conducted nearly 300 interviews over the past year. All took place outside of Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, as Israel denied entry to the researchers. Witnesses and victims—both Israeli and Palestinian—gave testimonies about the targeting of civilians, medical facilities and United Nations shelters, along with the existence of human shields (and the lack thereof), collective punishment, and the proportionality of the attacks.

The fate of the Palestinian national consensus government, a unity coalition between leaders in the West Bank and Gaza, will be decided in the next few days after reports yesterday that the West Bank heads will resign and establish a new authority late this evening following disputes with Hamas over their rule in Gaza. Little is known about who will fill the replacement government, but President Mahmoud Abbas is poised to continue his role as the chief official of the union under the promise of future elections for his seat and cabinet members, according to an official with the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a satirical cartoon video today ridiculing foreign journalists and their coverage of the Gaza Strip for failing to report, and notice that “terror rules Gaza,”—not Israel.

Israel is “fantastic,” or at least that is what the CEO of Orange, Stephane Richard, told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this morning in a second apology after stating last week his company wanted to pull out of Israel “tomorrow.”

Months ago journalists leaked that Israel would be kept off a United Nations list of the worst violators of children’s human rights following frantic lobbying by Israel and the United States. Even so, Israel is preeminently featured throughout the report published yesterday and called out as one of the worst child rights abusers in the world.

Over the weekend Israel’s right-wing politicians laid the groundwork to formally abandon a two-state solution with the Palestinians and crystallize a policy towards annexation.
