Only eight foreign journalists allowed to cover the war in Gaza

Israel has decided to let EIGHT foreign journalists into Gaza to cover the invasion. Ha'aretz reports in the article "Foreign journalists vie for the few slots to get into Gaza":

In contrast to the open policy that prevailed during the Second Lebanon War, the Defense Ministry decided to close the Strip entirely to the press. This week the matter reached the High Court of Justice.

In a compromise, the parties agreed that a limited team of eight journalists would be allowed into Gaza when the Erez crossing opened, for example, to send in humanitarian aid. However, sources in the Foreign Press Association say that since the decision, the crossings have not opened.

Israel claims this policy is for the journalists' own safety and the propaganda value to the Palestinians if a journalist was hurt. One Israeli source explained, "What if one of these media stars gets hurt? Even if it isn't Israel's fault, it will be perceived as fundamental for the Palestinians."

But even Israeli sources will admit that is an ulterior motive:

Keeping the foreign journalists in Israel, sources say, is good for Israel's image because the media is experiencing the war from the Israeli side. As soon as the IDF gets a hold in the Strip, it is expected that the IDF Spokesman will let Israeli and foreign journalists in with the army. For the time being, the only presence documenting events is the spokesman's office.

At least they're honest.  I guess this policy helps explain the media coverage to this point.  And with a plan that sounds suspiciously like the U.S.'s embedded media program in Iraq, can we expect better coverage in the future?

  1. It is bullshit. Just a publicity stunt. Israel has refused to even allow those 8 pre-screened journalists from entering the Strip. It makes no sense it would, just as the Nazis would not have invited a British reporter into the concentration camps and gas chambers.

  2. That way Israel can keep their tens of thousands of dead and imprisoned a secret. Officially they say there is only ONE dead!!! The number is closer to 200,000!!!!!
Hamas also has destroyed dozens of Israeli tanks and shot down 50 jets, including a C47 containing Ehud Barak.
    All covered up.

Ambassador Jeremy Issacharoff on CPSAN now:

A caller identifying herself as a relative of Rachael Corrie, ask him
about the lack of transparency and objectivity in Israel's handling of the Corrie incident , US arms to Israel specifics, and what's happening in Israel.

Issacharoff replies Israel is only bombing HAMAS militants. Israel is working within the Annapolis peace process, negotiating. Trying to defuse the Gaza violence.

Another caller asks who started the Gaza violence in Gaza?

Issacharoff replies Egypt broke truce on June 19th, this resulted in HAMAS firing rockets into Israel and smuggling in arms in the tunnels. Israel
still hoped the truce would hold. HAMAS declared by 12-19 the truce was over, but Israel made every effort to continue it. Iran has given HAMAS better rockets, smuggled in in 4 parts via the
    tunnels to and from Egypt.

Next caller: Over 7,000 rocket attacks from HAMAS; Brits bombed
Dresden to pieces after Nazi's sent rockets into England. HAMAS is a terrorist orginization, we all know–Israel needs more PR,
show those grad rockets going off, show the tunnels, interview
    more Israelis–

Issacharoff replies HAMAS has sent over 8,000 rockets into Israel since 2001. That's the correct proportionality context (paraphrased). Israel making a concerted effort to give the press
    all the historical context.

Next caller: Israel is implementing its transfer end game.

Issacharoff replies Israel has nothing against the Pal civilians. We will continue to give them humanitarian aid and to lessen collateral civilian damage, etc. At the end of the day, our POV
is to bring this thing into a durable and sustainable situation, not a return to the status quo. HAMAS has made no serious peace
efforts. HAMAS ideology is not consistent with a two-state solution.

Blogger – do you have any evidence to support that at at all?

I'd love that to be true – believe me.

And what is the figure of 200 000 referring to?

  5. The 2nd "blogger from Lebanon" is not me, but a ziofascist impersonator.

"Which gas chambers do you mean?"

The ones run by Nazi Germany.

  6. Evidence of what, Stevieb?
Evidence that the story about allowing 8 journalists into the Strip is a publicity stunt?
See Ha'aretz, there was an article about this. Not one of the 8 approved journalists have been allowed in.
Not only that, but Israel has arrested a number of journalists reporting from INSIDE Israel. One of them, it is being reported now, is the al-Jazeera journalist Elias Karram, who was yesterday slapped by a ziofascist thug (a civilian) — with impunity too — while reporting LIVE on TV. Mind you, Elias Karram sounds like an Israeli army propagandist. Add to that the fact that al-Jazeera continues to interview ziofascist leaders and army spokespersons to present their perspective. AND STILL, Israel whines that al-Jazeera is biased. Apparently, the Israeli definition of bias entails not reporting any of the massacres of women and children and men it has perpetrated. What an amalgamation of crybabies this so-called "country" called israel is.

  7. Well, my dear impersonator (comment #2), thanks for advertising my blog. Mind you, I am too occupied right now to write entries, but I appreciate the free advertisement.
