Israel lobby makes ‘castrated cattle’ of our Congress

Proof of Walt and Mearsheimer's idea has come with Congress's overwhelming vote for Israel at a time when the world is condemning Gaza and the Democratic grassroots are horrified. It's about elite control of foreign policy. The great Rami Khouri in Lebanese Daily Star says that Congress is trying to shackle Obama to the radiator while it can. And that from now on American lectures on democracy will make the rest of the world laugh, or vomit.

On no other foreign policy issue does Congress collectively stick its head in its back pocket, turn off its power of independent judgment, and disregard the impact of its decisions on how the US is perceived around the world. On no other issue does Congress vote according to the interests of a foreign country, rather than according to the US national interest. This kind of blind, wholehearted plunge into a maelstrom of pro-Israeli fanaticism and zealotry reflects precisely how strong the pro-Israeli lobby is in the United States, and how weak are the voices of reason, balance and justice as drivers of American foreign policy.

What pisses me off is that in the wake of a financial meltdown and countless other domestic problems, Congress and Senator Reid waste valuable time passing US laws for a foreign country. I dont give a damn whether the country is Israel, Somalia, or North Korea. Our elected officials should be dealing with the financial crisis here 1000%. Now.

  2. Richard Witty says:

    That's crap.

The majority of Congresspeople that voted in support of a verbal resolution condemning Hamas' judgement, applied reason to do that, not corruption.

  3. Me says:

Oh come on Witty. Surely you're intelligent enough to know that there's nothing wrong with on the one hand condemning Hamas for the rocket attacks which have killed what like 5 people. The problem is that Congress has no "on the other hand" where it condemns Israels mass murder of civilians. And it endorses the mythology of a "Jewish AND democratic" state, which can not exist any more than a "Muslim and democratic" state or a "Christian and democratic" state.

  4. samuel burke says:

mr richard witty…corruption corruption, corruption everywhere when it comes to the way america, my nation deals with the criminal state of israel…that shitty little country where israeli jews with the support of the world jewish community is murdering palestinian women and children….just like the german ss or nazis did in europe.

    never again…repeat it, never again.

what does that mean…never what again….

human beings first mr zionist apologist…
the jews of the world have little to no excuse for this one particular crime…not after what happened in europe, you would think they would be more sensitive and humane.

look at the headlines of todays newspapers, they look like something out of 1940 europe.

  6. citizen says:

Witty defends the nearly unanimous support of the entire US congress for Israel's conduct as reasonable and not corrupt. Here is
Pelosi's summary of its meaning: link to speaker.house.gov

She urges Bush to keep working for a cease fire in Gaza, and notes root causes should be looked at to realistically stop the cycle of violence. She
names only one root factual cause: Palestinians using Gaza as a
rocket launch pad (thereby threatening Israel's security).

  7. Dag Andersson says:

Whatever your take is on the conflict between Hamas and Israel, nobody should accept the ongoing slaughter of innocent people as a necessity. To do that you must be either scared -like the US congress,bought-like PEBO. or a lunatic-like Richard Witty
