Blacklist 2009: Jewish professional fears criticizing Israel because it could hurt her business

A fabulous piece of reporting in the San Francisco Chronicle by Carla Marinucci that underlines everything I've said on this blog: Gaza is a crisis of the American Jewish spirit. Just beautiful reporting. Many instances, from Jon Stewart saying that the attack is politically motivated because of Bush's exit (which is another obvious answer to Michael Walzer's just-war scales), to the Jewish organizations that now recognize this is a p.r. disaster, to this hushed statement from a Jewish professional who didn't want her name used out of fear of alienating her business clients:

She said it really came home at a recent Torah study, when a fellow
student took her aside and said, "What is Israel doing? How can these
bombs go on?"

(No, the question is: What is Israel? Find out.) Marinucci then takes the story to the national level. She says that the Jewish fragmentation over Gaza is empowering J Street and is going to give Obama political room to maneuver to the left. And if the fear of alienating her business clients is not enough, Marinucci has this brilliant pickup from Los Angeles that is all about the Israel lobby:

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa came under attack for
pro-Israel statements he made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Los
Angeles this week. Villaraigosa had said that "any nation would take
action to protect its citizens … and no country would sit silently
while innocent families are threatened and civilian lives are at risk."

That prompted Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim
Public Affairs Council Israel, to ask publicly: "Why is the mayor of
Los Angeles dragging himself and his constituents into international
conflicts in the Middle East?"

We know why: because of powerful Jewish monolithic support for Israel that is now ending!!! We are Jews and Muslims and Christians and atheists who oppose this slaughter. We are Obama's base. Yes we can.
