Your Israel lobby at work

Here's the draft resolution being circulated by the Democrats on Capitol Hill. Download it here. Money quotes, and yes I mean money:

"Whereas
Hamas was founded with the stated goal of destroying the State of Israel;

"Whereas
Hamas has been designated by the United States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization…

"Whereas
Hamas locates elements of its terrorist infrastructure in civilian population
centers, thus using innocent civilians as human shields;

"Resolved,

"That the House of Representatives–
 "(1) Expresses vigorous support and unwavering commitment
to the welfare, security, and survival of the State of Israel as a Jewish and
democratic state with secure borders, and recognizes its right to act in
self-defense to protect its citizens against Hamas’s unceasing aggression, as
enshrined in the UN Charter…"

    There was an interesting interview of Robert Caro that I heard on C-SPAN over the weekend. Caro said he had asked Tommy the Cork Corcoran (the New Deal lawyer) how it had happened that Lyndon Johnson suddenly started being treated with much more respect by the powers in Congress after the election of 1940. Corcoran said it was all about money, but that Caro would never be able to write that, as he would never find written documentation. Caro said that he then found evidence that, at that time, LBJ had persuaded Brown & Root to route all its campaign contributions through him, and that he had found a file documenting LBJ's contributions to many members of Congress.

    So money even had that kind of power in Congress during the New Deal.

    With blogs, the Daily show, and reasonable people expressing disapproval of Israel's actions, this kind of stuff can't be sustained.

    When Mexico's president Juarez was asked to spare Maxmillian's life, Juarez pointed out the law used to condemn Maxmillian to death was enacted by Maxmillian himself.

    A little off topic, but I think this a really great site for those interested.

    "A less friendly response appears next:

    what crap! Trying to wrap an entire Jewish culture into one of death is NOT a way to comprehend today's issues. This old anti-antisemitism has no answers, only bullshit!

    Here's how I responded:

    No one is trying to "wrap an entire Jewish culture into one of death." The point is that there is a "culture of death" within Judaism and Jewish society. The phrase "culture of death" comes from an Israeli Jew, Professor Idith Zertal of Hebrew University, in her book Israel's Holocaust and the Politics of Nationhood (Cambridge University Press, 2005). But you probably don't need to bother with such books because you already have all the answers, right? So answer me this: The timing of the current Israeli assault on Gaza was of the IDF's own choosing, if it has nothing to do with a Judaic "culture of death" then why did the IDF choose to start it during Hanukkah and why did they choose to give it a name associated with Hanukkah?"

    Apparently AIPAC is now confessing authorship. The draft now appears on their Web page: link to aipac.org

    –"Hamas was founded with the stated goal of destroying the State of Israel"

    A Hamas majority was democratically elected in the 2006 elections insisted upon by Washington and Israel. But even before that, Israel had a hand in Hamas' origins:

    "Israel and Hamas may currently be locked in deadly combat, but, according to several current and former U.S. intelligence officials, beginning in the late 1970s, Tel Aviv gave direct and indirect financial aid to Hamas over a period of years. Israel 'aided Hamas directly – the Israelis wanted to use it as a counterbalance to the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization),' said Tony Cordesman, Middle East analyst for the Center for Strategic [and International] Studies. Israel's support for Hamas 'was a direct attempt to divide and dilute support for a strong, secular PLO by using a competing religious alternative,' said a former senior CIA official." — Analysis: Hamas history tied to Israel, By Richard Sale, UPI Terrorism Correspondent

    –"Whereas Hamas has been designated by the United States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization"

    Thanks to lobbying/arm twisting/campaign contributions by the Israel lobby, and Jewish Zionist ideologues…

    –"Whereas Hamas locates elements of its terrorist infrastructure in civilian population centers, thus using innocent civilians as human shields;"

    That's like saying by posting armed IDF soldiers in public places, Israel is locating elements of its state terrorist infrastructure in civilian population centers. Imagine the hue and cry if an Islamic regime did to Israel what the Jewish regime is doing to Gaza based on the same pretext.

    Thanks to the Israel lobby and the Jewish Zionists, Washington has internalized the Jewish supremacist motto: "One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail." –Rabbi Ya'acov Perin in his eulogy at the funeral of mass murderer Dr. Baruch Goldstein
