Another ravishing picture by Emily Henochowicz. Wow. This is an artist on fire, determined to shift American consciousness. Title of picture is "Human Shield." I say Israeli because of the image of the settlements in the Jerusalem hills, and Henochowicz's reference to tear gas in her comment about the pic. Thanks to Susie Kneedler.

what is there to suggest or interpret? the idf’s use of human shields is documented in proceedings before the israeli supreme court.
link to adalah.org
still, a brilliant image.
did someone do some editorial surgery to the post? the text seems to have changed since i last looked.
yes, i had it wrong initially, susie kneedler showed me that it referred explicitly to human shields
thanks. so i’m not suffering from early-onset senility. it takes a better man than i to admit he had it wrong. initially.
How Henochowicz makes us wonder: here about the cowardly crouch of the IDF soldier behind the brave, helpless Palestinian child.
She even invites us to ask about the contrast between her more public title, “Apropriated Memory 1,” with the second one, “Human Shield,” and their connection to her introduction, “I was too distracted by the smell of tear gas to see this:”–How IDF attacks prevent witnesses from recognizing their cringing cruelty?
Where American historians and journalists, for the most part, utterly fail us in documenting human atrocities at the hands of us and our allies, artists will step up to fill the role.
And we aren’t nearly as kind and forgiving and willing to fake “objectivity” for the sake of expediency.
Right on Chaos.
I was previously ambivalent about other works I’d seen by but this piece is really impressive. The big version at flickr:

Chaos do you like poster art? If yes PFLP have a gallery on their site of more than 100 posters going back to the their founding in 1967. The gallery itself is currently down but google have cached the first page:
link to webcache.googleusercontent.com
You don’t get it from just that one page but the diversity and creativity is huge. I’ve just been looking around the web now and found a huge online gallery which I’ll link to in next post.

and a related site w/ some writing on the posters:

Phil & Adam – a 1978 poster by Lisa Kokin (US) titled “Being Jewish Is Not the Same As Being Zionist!”:

The full text from the poster:
“Being Jewish is not the same as being Zionist! Our own history of persecution as Jews helps us to understand and support the struggle of the Palestinians to determine their own destiny.”
A brilliant and compelling image.
I’m impressed. I don’t think too much of modern art, but even I can see the power in that piece.
wow, simply stunning. go emily go. taking my breath away, art at apex.
